Saltwater Ghost Shrimp

Last night at about 2:30 am i am heading to bed and see my puffer chasing something in the tank. I look in side and there’s a ghost shrimp. Now this is not a spectacular thing in and of itself but I haven’t fed him ghosts in a month! Not only is the shrimp alive but also it is fatter than any of the ones I remember putting in so it has been eating well. I didn’t acclimate the shrimp I just netted them out of the bag and put them in the tank. My question is has anyone tried to acclimate ghost shrimp and if so do they thrive in salt water. I was thinking of the benefits of having saltwater feeders that cost a dime each or less and the fact that they are good detritus eaters. Any thoughts?

I've noticed the same thing. I put a few in a hospital tank to amuse my imprisoned fish and the darn ghost shrimp lived for a few weeks. I was a bit shocked since it had copper dosed.

There are FW and SW ghost shrimp. I don't know how you got a SW shrimp with FW shrimp, but if you want some more go to aquaculturestore.com and they sell those pretty cheap.

u can get the fw ones at wallmart for like 26cents.

Some of the more common species of ghost shrimp can be found in both SW and FW. Those species can adapt to either with a short acclimation, some will make it with no acclimation...but only some.

Nice to know i think im going to take advantage of the fact they eat algae people should be using these in reefs as part of the cycle process they eat algae and if you add fish they get eaten which is what they are sold for in most lfs.
I wouldnt buy ghosts from wally world 26cents is way over priced you can get them from your lfs for 15 for a buck or less
