Saltwater Information Requested at Sept Meeting:

In Memoriam
I was going to PM this info to the folks who wanted it, but then I thought maybe this way everyone who would like to have it could benefit:

1.) This is the Finnex tank was I talking about that I want to order:
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...duct_Code=FI-MTG1802c&Category_Code=Aquariums

It has a false wall complete with skimmer, filtration system, lights, flow, etc. Expensive, but not too shabby. :D Obviously I suppose, I'd like to find one used if I could.

2.) Do It Yourself Calcium Reactor

http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/diycareactor.htm

This one was built by Snailman, but you can find lots of plans like this all over the internet. MUCH cheaper than buying it retail. Most items can be built DIY just like this one- if you have trouble finding plans, just let me know and I will help you find some good ones.

3.) Lights

This is the light I had hanging over the tank:

http://www.hellolights.com/ocli25hqiame.html

The middle light was 20k, and the two end lights were 10k.

However, if buying lights, you can also buy DIY retrofit kits for much less. Or, they even have disposable lights as well. You can find used lights on EBay or here on RC in the Equipment for Sale Forum. Just make sure it comes with a good reflector so that escaping light is redirected into your tank.

4.) Zoanthids:

We discussed at the meeting how it is much easier to trade zoanthids than it is to buy them. I gave out coupon codes for several major sites, but I don't think I am allowed to post them on here. If you would liek them and were unable to attend, just shoot me a PM or ask someone who was there. Other than that, http://www.club-zoa.com/forum/index.php has a great zoanthids for trade/corals for sale forum where I got what you saw in my tank. Lots of time, for me, it means the difference between paying $30 for a frag of 10-15 polyps or $35-45 per polyps on a retail site.

5.) DIY Refugiums

Buy the size aquarium you want the refugium to be, and then run a search on ebay for refugium kits. With a little aquarium sealant, you can make your own for a fraction of the cost. If you need macroalgae, just let me know and I can harvest some from my tank for you for free. Bioballs/Return Pumps you can also get off ebay, or at a LFS near you. When first set up, I would encourage you to put a piece of LR in it for ammonia production to cycle the sand. Let me know if you have questions or need more help.

6.) www.wetwebmedia.com

Great site by Bob Fenner and company, with a free search engine where you can search all sorts of saltwater and freshwater related FAQs. If I have a question about what it is I want to buy, I start here.

7.)The Conscientious Aquarist Online Magazine:

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/CAHomepage.htm

This is where my article was published. :D Woohoo! It is listed under Jennifer Smith and not Laurie Smith because Jen is my first name. :D

I had a wonderful time!! Thank you for the frags, food, and for the tomatoes- I am eating a BLT sandwich and leftover cheese/ crackers right now, and boy are they good!!

:D

Almost forgot, here is the information for the skimmer under the tank:
http://www.deltecusa.us/proteinskimmers/apf600.php

Controller:
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...roduct_Code=PA-LHC&Category_Code=othercontrol

Tunzes:
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...OD&Product_Code=T6100.000&Category_Code=TUNZE
The one on the side was a multicontroller for wavemaking, and the pumps were held in my magnets also from Tunze.

However, having said all that, you don't need it to have a great tank, I just happened to get this stuff used at a great price.

:D

Hey no problem! I enjoyed it. And thanks for the green star polyps you left- I have a runway of them down the center of the tank now :D . Alyssa was pretending today that her toy plane was taking off on it through the glass... LOL
