samll tank for a peacock?

I just asked this question and the general rule is 25g minimum. But obviously depends on the shape of your tank. I am personally going to build a 20gallonish but make it short so it will have more surface area. Hope this helps.

what will happen if i put a 6 inch peacock mantis in a 12 gallon JBJ with some live rock and a macro algae?

The ground will open up and fire will consume you whole. :P

It probably wouldn't be the most comfortable life for the Peacock, and it's fully capable of shattering the glass. Stick with a 30g or more, and go for acrylic if you can. I've heard of Peacocks breaking a 75 gallon tank before...

He will be fine. Just keep your water quality reasonable, the peacock mantis are a bit messy when they eat. That could be bad for your system parameters.

You will have fun however you play that.

Humans can live in 6x8 prison cells for 30 years. You can live for days on nothing but urine.

Remember that in the wild, these animals have reasonably-sized territories. I feel strongly that as a marine aquarist that is buying an animal that was forcibly removed from its habitat, that I strive to provide it with the highest-quality home I reasonably can. For a peacock, that means at least 25-30 gallons, a dark tube, lots of rock and rock rubble, some live foods, a good, varied diet, and somewhat subdued lighting; not to mention, heavy filtration / skimming.

IMNSHO, keeping a peacock in a 12 is cruel. YMMV.

ya but wat if i just keep it in a 12 gallon?

Then dont get a peacock! If you only have money for a 12 gallon tank or its what you already have, dont get a peacock! Get a smaller species, it will be much happier in a 12 gallon than a peacock would. If you lived in an apartment would you buy a horse? No. So why would you put an animal that needs more space in a smaller aquarium? Please, if you care about the animal get the correct sized tank for it. If you really must have a peacock go get at least a 30 gallon tank, I got mine with a stand for less than $150.

Peacooks are more active then most mantis out there and they need that room to rome, Go for the smaller one's that only get 2 to 3 inch's in size! Look on Roy's list on the main mantis forum, lot's of choices for a tank that size!
