Sand for new tank

Upgrading from my 75 gal. tank to a 120 gal. The 75 has a deep sand bed ( 4-5 inches ) and don't think I want to do this again. I'm looking for suggestions for depth and type of sand to use if I go with a more shallow bed. Is there a calculator to determine how much sand I would need for a particular depth?

As to the type, Steve Pro on here still has sand I believe.

I would say 100 lbs should be you around 2 inches of depth. I just put 50lbs in my 60 cube and have that depth.

What are the dimensions for your tank?

A good rule of thumb is 10 pounds of sand will cover a 12" by 12" area 1" deep.

As Ray said, I do have excess sand. If you are interested, send me a PM.
