sand shifter missing an arrm.

i woke up this morning and found my sand sifting star is missing an arm.

i have only had it about a week and it seldom is burried but moves/moved around a lot. perhaps something is eating on it?

It's dying.

Any sand sifting star that is out and about is desperately trying to find food.

Sand sifting stars quickly deplete the sand bed of microfauna and slowly starve to death. Even though you've only had it a week, it has been starving for months no doubt.
