Sand-Sifting Gobies spawning

Hey guys.

My pair of sand sifting Gobies started spawning a few weeks ago.
I know this because one of them would hide in their cave, only coming out for food. Not knowing what was going on, I lifted the rock their cave is under, discovering a batch of eggs. I didn't notice any fry after that, and both fish were back out all the time. Last night the spawning happened again, with only one fish out, and the other only coming out to feed.

Now to my question, is there anything I can do to increase the chances of the eggs hatching and the fry surviving??

Thanks in advance.

Most likely the fry you're going to get are going to be very small and are going to require rotifers in order to feed. The first step would be to have a place for them to go because most display tank filters will just suck them in and they won't survive very long. Or the other fish (if you have any) in the tank will eat them as well. To attempt raising them you're going to have to figure out when you can carefully remove the eggs from the nest to another tank that has an air filter or one slow enough not to endanger the fry. Then you're going to need to raise the smallest kind of rotifers you can. That would be your best bet to try your first attempt, but to be honest most gobies are not easy to breed if they are your first experience at raising marine fry. Good luck if you decide to attempt.

Thanks. Great info, I'll see how I go.

Just to be clear though, removing the eggs before they hatch is the way to go??

Thanks again.

What species of goby? The orange spotted gobies typically hatch out around 3 days, and very small. Best luck would be with the small S-strain rotifers. If you go with removing the nest for hatching, you'll want to provide strong aeration to keep the nest moving and well oxygenated until they hatch. As soon they hatch, you'll need to turn the air down to just barely strong enough to gently circulate the water.
