sand sifting goby, sand storm 24-7, now what?

i just bought a sand sifting goby about a week ago. and every day my tank has been cloudy because of the sand dust from him sifting the sand. not to mention, he made like 5 homes under the rocks for himself.


anyhow, anyone have this problem at all? or will it eventually go away after a while.

It will go away after awhile, once all the finer dust in your sand is cleared away. I used a canister filter with fine pads for a week and after that the goby carried on sifting but without the cloudiness.

hope so, I'm in the same boat! 500g tank. also, I have 2 cucumbers in there, I wonder if they will starve now becaus eof the new fish sifting all that sand?

I have a Gold sleeperhead goby...and it did the same thing when I got him back in May...only lasted a week or so...now he only sifts the areas he wants to! still makes one hell of a mess over my corals and rocks...keep a turkey baster around to keep them clean! great fish though and grow pretty fast...since may I'd say mines grown almost an inch...

Well, you wanted a sand sifter did'nt you? That's what they do! You need to place a fine filter to remove all the stired up detritus. Your "storm" should be gone in a couple of weeks.
