just got my first sand sifting star, in a 220g reef. Seems to be doing well, moving around everywhere. Do I need to feed him special, or does he just do his own thing and get left overs?
From my reading on the subject from wetwebmedia.com, "Sand Sifting" stars feed on sand bed infauna. They require a large and mature sand bed to maintain themselves.
Try mysis, enriched brineshrimp, and pieces of silverside. Mine accepts that and gobbles it up in seconds. I don't know what kind you have so it might reject those food stuffs. I hope you're star is as unusual as mine in accepting food.
