I just got a sandsifting starfish and one of my peppermint shrimp came over to it and started checking it out, vigorously. Are they compatible?

I have two peps and a sand sifter no issues. all my shrimp always get curious when something new goes in the tank.

Compatible, yes, but sand sifting star largely pointless in a reef tank. Generally they eat all of the beneficial sand fauna and then starve.

we gave ours back to petstore after we heard that /\
we only have a 29 gal tank which was just 3 months old at the time

IMHO, one of the worst possible additions to any tank, but especially to newer small ones.

not really. they eat the beneficial organisms that are living in your sand and are what actually makes it "live". Sandsifting stars should probably just be left in the ocean, but thats JMO.

I was asking about those little red star fish and I was told I'd be better off with a sandsifting star fish but to wait because my tank will be new. Was I led astray?
