Some types of starfish feed on mussels, I was wondering I have a sand sifting starfish and want to add a conch and a clam at some point in the future, will this be OK. Would the starfish beable to eat the clam or conch or are they compatible?
I'm guessing a sand sifting starfish would sift the sand. Pods worms and such. I wouldn't worry about it. A verification on the star would be great though. Just to tell.
Sand sifting stars feed mostly on small mollusks and some small crustaceans in the sand. They don't pose a threat to your other animals, but they pose a threat to the sandbed itself and to themselves since they will eat themselves out of house and home.
Thanks, thought I might have been worrying about nothing. I don't have any pics of the top of the starfish just the underside, was going to take a pic this morning but it has burried itself.
My sand sifting star sifts away nonstop and ignores my large mollusks, I've read they're mostly detritivors, in addition to small morsels they find in the SB. no worries i'd say
