OK, am researching different sand grain sizes and am trying to figure out what the finest sand that doesn't get blown around is. Background - planning on mixed reef, not blasting water flow like a SPS tank.
Per Advanced Aquarist, coarse (2 mm) sediments did have more phosphate than fine (0.2 mm) sediments.
From what I have read, sand < 1 mm in size tends to get blown around a lot.
So . . . are people trying to stay right around 1 mm for grain size? My thoughts are to stick to just under 1 mm to just over 1 mm, but I don't know what fits that criteria (I'm concerned that coarser sediments will trap food/detritus and am assuming that after the biofilms develop there will be relatively little sand going anywhere unless I have a lot of flow directed at the sandbed.
From what I've read, most pple tend to use the 0.5-1.5 mm sands (Caribsea Aragamax Select, Caribsea Fiji Pink) for fine stuff and 1-1.7 mm sands (Caribsea Special Grade) and coarser for high flow tanks.
