Sand Storm lol

I beleive about 3 or 4 days ago i filled my tank and it was a massive mess of sand. Today i could finally see thru the tank. I decided to turn on my Magnum 350 (with water polisher filter) on to see if it will help clear it up. Is this a good idea????? i dont have current in the tank and the sand settles what will stop it from going crazy again??? Should i have my PH's on as well????

You could have ran your filter from day 1. Or use a cheapo Hang on filter to help clear it up also.

Joe, is there any live rock in the tank? If you don't, you should place a few pieces in to help add some bacteria. This will aid in clearing up your water. The bacteria will help clump and weight down the small "dust".

Sweet im gonna be gettin LR this weekend. I was jsut waiting for the water to clear thought perhaps it would hurt the LR dont know why lol

You could run your Magnum 350, but it will probably clog up pretty quick with the small dust. Just wait until your rock shows up, it will be just fine. If stuff settles on the rock, just blow them off with a turkey baster.

Im wondering if i should get some base rock first or just go all LR tough decisions lol

What im hopeing is that its not the sand i used lol Alot of ppl told me that i should be alright its agregite (spelling) with no silica. Its a very fine sand and is white. i know your supposed to use agronite because it will act as a buffer supposedly but i used this instead :\ most told me it shouldnt matter

Well woke up and it was alot clearer tonight it was still the same so i figure ill clean the filter. Clean the filter (left the power heads running) and next think i know its all clouded up again. Its really startin to agrivate me. Is it possible for sand to be too fine?????????????

Put some live rock in and it will settle down in no time. The sand needs some bacteria to hold it all together. Patients my friend!!

Thanks for your reply Konadog. My dad kept maken fun of me and tellin me to put a Cement brick in the tank LOL. So it doesnt matter if my sand is agregate vs. agronite in the matter of settling??????

If it does, it's very little. You just need some life in there. If your not getting all your rock for some time, see if you can pick up 2 or 3 pieces for now.

Alright its pretty expensive around here 6.99 a lb under 30lbs 5.00lb over 30lbs
So i turned off my power heads for now and i think it will settle over night and ill get the LR ASAP THANK YOU so much Kondadog i was starting to get worked up
