i took out about 200 pounds of sand trying to reduce nitrates(so i was told) did not work/////i have had a 65g then a 120g now 180g just have moved everything from to the other i have allways had nitrates around 20ppm i would like to reuse the sand/its been in an ice chest for 30 or45 days...(just sand) what to do if possible/////

This sounds like a gag, but since we're all here to help out folks and by chance you're serious......

#1 - 20ppm isn't so bad for starters.
#2 - Moving sand around is going to make things worse.
#3 - If the sand is really in a cooler, it's toast. If you put it in a tank by itself and kept doing water changes day after day, you could eventually use it as dead substrate but it would still be dead.
