just purchased a sattle back clown fish was wondering if they need anomes and what is the proper one for that fish. he is a deasent size and wondering if it would host an anome. do u need two to get them to host the anome.

It's saddleback. Haddoni and crispa are natural hosts. If given a natural host, one or a pair would likely be hosted by the anemone. Before purchasing an anemone, do your research. Neither of those species of anemone should be tried by a beginner. Established tanks and experience keeping marine tanks is advisable.

M. doreensis, the long tentacled anemone, is also a natural host to A. polymnus/saddleback. You do not need an anemone for the clown though. It will do just fine without an anemone. In fact, I've tried saddlebacks in my haddoni twice, and had to separate them both times, because the fish were to rough of the anemone. Todd actually had a saddleback die after going inside his anemone.

I have to agree with this. My black saddleback female buries herself in the haddoni's mouth at least once a month. It's scary to see, but knock on wood hasn't caused damage yet. To either party.

ya i was tinking about getting an anome and then i picked the clown up from my lockal stoor and tought to my self if i was going to get one i would get it for the purpose. i feel bad because i have a bubbler and it burrys its self under it.

just wanted to anounce i purchaced a bubble tip anome and my cloun has hosted it in less then 24 hours. =)

I've had a 4.5" female saddleback in my SPS display for 3 years and she's never had an anemone.
After killing 3 males, i gave up trying to find her a mate.
