I STARTED DOSING TRITON METHOD THIS EVENING. ONE OF THE DRIP VALVES IS FAULTY AND ADDED WAY TOO MUCH OF 'CORAL 7a' INTO THE TANK (APPROX. 250ML, SHOULD ONLY BE 5ML). TANK ALL CLOUDY AND FISH ACTING WEIRD.

I HAVE A 55L SPARE TANK AND 25L OF FRESH SALT WATER IN A CONTAINER. THERE IS A CANISTER FILTER RUNNING THROUGH THE 25L WATER CONTAINER WHICH HAS JUST BEEN SEEDED WITH FRESH BACTERIA (THIS WAS FOR QT USAGE IN TWO WEEKS TIME).

IT'S MIDNIGHT HERE AND I CAN'T GET TO MY LFS FOR 10 HOURS!!!!
SHOULD I PUT THE 25L OF WATER INTO THE 55L TANK , ADD LIVEROCK, PUMP, ETC. AND ADD MY LIVESTOCK INTO IT??

I AM AFRAID MY LIVESTOCK WILL DIE!

ANY IDEAS?

THANK YOU

I would probably put the fish in the QT tank or even a bucket with a bubbler in fresh salt water and heater.

then do 2 or 3 substantial water changes.

While I have not had any major issues as you describe. This is what I have read other do and seems to work.

Which one did you overdose?

Bottle Contents
Number 1 = Magnesium + Traces
Number 2 = Calcium + Traces
Number 3A = Alkalinity + Traces
Number 3B = Alkalinity + Trace

I'd just mix up a bunch of salt water with tap water since you don't have enough RODI available and do a 90% water change. Problem immediately solved. Then just do some larger than normal waterchanges with RODI when you are able to.

I went to my LFS this morning, Steve (staff) has a lot of eperience with the Triton method. Too much 3a element was added by mistake (faulty non-return valve), he explained that this was a KH additive. The cloudiness in the water was a chemical reaction - hardness sucking calcium out of the water, it was basically calcium carbonate being produced quickly via chemical reaction. I am happy to say that I didn't do anything last night (I couldn't get the filter working in QT tank and it was 2.30am), so just went to bed! The tank was clear this morning and livestock fine. The chemical reaction caused my calcium to drop to 350, now I've stopped dosing Triton elements but I'm dosing Triton calcium booster until levels are back up to where they should be - disaster avoided.

I hop that makes sense. Thanks for the feedback.

Triton Method = no water changes, top up with elements + RO water only. I have seen amazing results from others.

Happy Reefing.

I've had some issues with water chemistry, placement of corals (some bleaching and had to move them lower) and anemone, dosing problems and Ich. Fish still have ick, Mag is way happier with new placement, one clown stopped eating and perished. I'm moving next week and have invested in a QT tank, the fish will go in there for two months and main system will be fallow for this time also. I will re-arrange the rock because of the high tower place (looks cool, natural and provides security for the fish) but does cut-out a lot of light below - I'll keep one side high and the other somewhat exposed.
