Ok so I purchased my beautiful rbta at my Lfs and the tank it was in only had 2 t5s so I get home put it in my tank all water parameters are perfect. The nem is happy for 2 weeks my clarki accepts it, all is good. One day I slightly turned the rock it was on( I am positive I didn't hurt it) and within 2 hours it let go of the rock and floated into my rockwork, I had to take apart Everything to find it, (when I found it it was happy) this has happened 3 times now water is perfect........ Why is it letting go???? Help me

my tank: 55 gal
lights: 2x250mh
filtration: backpack with skimmer
temp 78
salinity: 1.024

I had them do the same thing.....till they find a place to call home. Some just turn loose and ride the current, some walk in efforts to find a better spot. Low light can be a cause for this, but not in your case. If they wander in the shade they will wander back into the light by themselves. I have one rock that BTA's love, it has a 1/2" hole that winds back inside. They apparently feel safe there and can hide anytime they want. FWIW there was nothing in the tank to threaten them, just instinct to find a safe haven i guess.

The thing I've found that works best is to take a piece of liverock, chisel a hole in the rock using a hammer and a makeshift chisel with a screw driver. I put on glasses to protect from flying pieces of rock. I like to make the hole 2 or 3 inches in diameter and maybe two inches deep. The hold should be positioned so it's on the side of the liverock once the rock is inside the tank. BTAs like to plant their foot inside a cave and extend their tentacles out. Preferably they have their foot facing slightly upward, like a "J." Take the wandering anemone, push its foot gently into the hole and keep your hand there until the foot begins to attach.
