save the date

As it stands, March 18th is when I can first start moving stuff into the new house.
Floor joists will need beefing up (they run parallell to the length of the new aquarium) and I'll eventually need to install a washbasin in the basement. (I might need to do a quick saddle valve install for my RO production and worry about the washbasin later.)
I hope to have my 225 completely emptied by late afternoon on the 18th so zanclus can take it home.

What did you decide on the new tank?
I'm still undecided, Mark. Actually- time doesn't allow me much choice. A custom built aquarium (like I the one that I want) takes 6-8 weeks to build.
It looks like I'll be getting a "plain jane" 180 or 225 with no "reef ready" overflows (because all commercially built overflows are in the wrong spot for my application.)
Looks like I'll be drilling the aquarium or get some hang on tank overflows- unless some "miracles" happen.
:p

As in "Miracles in Glass"? Those tanks are very nice.....

As you probably know, Keith M. makes a mean overflow box...saw his work at the new AquaTech store

John

I know he's very talented, but I wasn't aware Keith did overflows.
'Miracles' will definitely (eventually) build my dream aquarium.

I will be there Gary, count on that!!!! I am very much a wreak over this whole situation on my end. So much to do so little time to get it done.

You saw my overflow design, if you go with a hood you could make one of those for your tank. Just have it setup to go off the side instead of the back. Then you can do the room divider thing. For everyone else I should be doing a thread on that overflow this weekend, I want to get rid of any kinks before I show it off :)

Gary drilling may not be bad at all. Just modify a 225. Acrylic is so easy to work with, you could put together a real nice overflow system. What about close loops?
Ice cap pumps?

Kent- a modified 225 will be the new aquarium. I might add a closed loop at later date. I'll be keeping my pumps and as much of my current plumbing that I can use. I could use at least 3 guys on the 18th to help carry heavy aquariums (and maybe livestock) to the new house.

Great you will have the manpower already there to load your old tank for me ... Now all I need is some strapping yourng men to unload it when it gets to my place. See you on the 18th Gary.

Looks like I'll need to get together with the lawyer to find out how soon I can get in on the 18th. Regardless, the new aquarium will be waiting right outside the door on the 18th to carry in. Since I'm using my old aquarium stand, I'll need to empty my current tank ASAP. I was just over there at the new place taking measurements. Now I know why home builders X brace floor joists- the distance between each floor joist varies quite a lot. Bummer. I wanted to pre-cut some 2x8's that I have in the garage. I was going to cut up some 14.5" cross supports, but that won't work between all the joists.

So the mains tasks on the 18th are to move the new aquarium in, transport livestock over there, load the old aquarium into John's (zanclus) vehicle and place the new aquarium on the old stand after I haul it over there. The game plan from there is to get water and livestock into the new aquarium along with heaters and powerheads. I'll hook up the rest (sump, skimmer, etc. etc. at a later point in time), maybe on Sunday.
The main thing is that I need to get the old aquarium out of this house on the 18th. I need to repair the floor and carpeting ASAP. :)

Gary if you need my help i can be there. I also have some of those 18 gallon totes that I used to move my 180 that I can bring.
Let me know

Thanks
Scott

Gary
If you need another hand let me know.I should be able to make it and I know I would learn alot. lol And believe me I have alot I should learn.I have a decent new mitre saw I can bring to cut the boards if you need also.Just PM me as it gets closer and let me know if you need help. Oh ya how was that nudi you got from John yesterday. Did he find any flat worms. Thanks alot Scott

Thanks for all of the offers of help. As soon as I find out exact times on the 18th I'll post them here.
Buckets and totes will be welcome as long as they were only used for aquarium related stuff.
Scott- the nudi needs help. I don't think whatever is in my aquarium is going to sustain it. Somebody working on reinforcing the floor joists would be one less thing for me to worry about.

Kent- if you want to help out, c'mon over! (Did you beef up floor joists under your big aquarium?) I just got notified that I need to register my son for football at 9AM on the 18th, so the bucket brigade starts here around 11AM and the project will probably last well into late evening.

The new 225 arrived today. My PC will be moved on the 18th, so I won't be in touch here on that date. My phone # will remain the same.
Nobody will receive a formal invitation to the dance- if you want to help out, c'mon over on the 18th.
