Saw him a few days ago, bought him today

Good luck with this fish! I'm very excited for my new pair to be coming in a couple of weeks from Kevin. He has done all of the hard work in the way of getting them to eat, and they are eating pellet and flake pretty well now along with an assortment of frozen foods.

One thing I have found with these fish in the first couple months is that many feedings will be needed. I was feeding 4x per day, but Kevin told me after the experience that closer to 8x per day for the first months is recommended. They are quite personable once used to their environment though. :)

A pair of these would be nice, good luck with them when they arrive.

I have an automatic feeder that goes off 4 times a day, maybe he is eating pellets when I am not looking. I feed frozen once a day, give nori as well. Right now the only thing I see him eat is pods but he could be munching other food when I am not around. He is in a holding tank and will be for another two months. I am moving at the end of May and I am hoping that he will be eating fiercely by then

In most any case, sexing centropyge is impossible unless a bonded pair is formed (two fish tolerating each other with a size difference). Once this is achieved the female will most often be the smaller one and the male will be the larger one. I say most since in cases of other hermaphroditic species the sizes of the sexes are flipped around. Outside of this and the flame angel, there really aren't any indicators of sex.

Sad to say, I woke up this morning and he was dead.

I wish all of you with them good luck, they are a beautiful fish

Oh no, thats so sad. But they are very sensitive fish. Hopefully mine will be ok for the next 2 months.. He was about 1 month at my LFS.

Sorry to hear. When my first pair died I was disheartened to say the least.

Do you know where the fish was collected? If you really want to try again I would look into finding a specimen from Vanuatu or Marshall Islands if at all possible. They typically adapt to captivity better than those from Indinesia/Indo Pacific.

sorry to hear Ray,

same happened with the one I picked up ... luckily it was being QTed alone.

mine lasted only 2 days though ... it must have been something with the collection or ...

The one you bought, I personally didn't think looked that healthy to begin with. I was choosing between the two but I felt like the one I bought had a better chance of survival

Mine was also isolated, I have learnt my lesson about introducing fish too quickly to my DT
