LOL - I didn't know if I could name the LFS but since you did it was absolutely fish. I didn't remember seeing the juvi markings that Humaguy's have but, sweet none the less. My 8 y/o said that was the one he wanted ...
Absolutely fish has always had at least one for sale since the late 90's. I can't remember a year they haven't had one. They usually will sell 2-3 a year believe it or not.

Now sure how I feel about 50 going to a lab. I don't know what they couldn't get out of just 10 instead. I felt sad when he said "they always die" like it's to be expected =(

the 50 going to a lab are for breeding purposes...the reference that "they always die" (is to the eggs and fry- tough to get them to breed and hard, if not almost impossible to rear) not the parent fish....that video is from cortez tropical marine the sole group to get clarions..

Wow! so about 200 for sale, why still the high price tag?
I always thought to myself if this was a common fish, I don't think it would really be an attention grabber. I wouldn't imagine many people throwing these in a reef and would avoid them just like any other angel. I still like a mature passer angel over the clarion, but the passer is to aggresive.

They are the only ones who collect them and only do it once or twice a year...they send them all over the world so only a small percentage actually stay in the us...in the wild it is a common fish...they are a protected fish in Mexican waters- and that led them to be rarely seen in the US trade...these are not found in Mexican waters...maybe we will see a price drop in the future..

You can thank the internet for that............I payed $450 for a 6" adult back in the early 90's.
I'd like to say it's inflation to some extent, but 90% of the fish species sold now are less or equal in price to what they were back then.
I would have to disagree with that, it's more like 10% are less or equal to what they were. If you ale inflation into account then yes a damsel would be around the same price I guess, 2 bucks in the mid 90's and now 7-8 bucks. Yellow tangs were 9 bucks in the mid 90's and now they go for as much as 60 bucks, not to mention all the other fish that have skyrocketed. The purple tang has always been around 100 bucks and I now see them going for over 200, an Achilles tang was a 30-40 dollar fish for a nice sized one, now it's well over 200 for the same sized fish. Those prices are more than just inflation. Although I think all harder to keep fish should be more expensive, that way people will think twice before buying it and less of them would be imported. Like cleaner wrasse, leapord wrasse, certain butterflies, you get the idea.
