SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Yeah I don't think it's possible to have a plug n play system that appeases everyone, we all end up tinkering and swapping something to fit our individual needs in some way shape or form eventually, but they do provide something decent straight out of the box, and bottom line for me is the actual tank is a quality build and a great deal for the price, especially for a low iron glass tank.

On my 80 gallon the predrilled holes in the overflow fit 1/2" loc-line. Has anyone tried to modify the holes to accommodate 3/4" loc-line? If you have what worked for you? Thx

On Steve's bigger tanks, 150+, what size return holes are drilled? I don't recall what size hole for what size bulkhead at the moment. 1" bulkhead size?

Thanks

Hi All,

So i had SCA build this cabinet for me. And for some reason, i don't love the way it came out reason being that i has some imperfections, for example, the gap at the top of the door and the stain job is not perfect, and since this will be placed in my living room im looking at it with a critical eye, just wanted to get you guys opinion on this cabinet.

Thank You!

Agree, I don't like the way that looks. For what SCA asks for a cabinet, it's a no brainer to build your own.

I would ask for corrected door but the top staining doesnt matyer as it will be covered with the tank. Is the stain similar other areas of rhe stand that you will see

Thanks, so im not crazy. And never mind this is their second attempt on this cabinet the first one was even worse i declined the excuse was that they had the wrong guy in the shop build it.
Anyway the reason why i wanted this cabinet in the first place was because i have seen what SCA has built in the past and it looked very nice. I think they night have changed where they build the cabinets.

And you have adjusted the height 9f the door with the hinges right? There is some play there but not sure enough for that gap...

The staining on the visible part of the stand look fine to me though. Most dont worry abput stain on areas to be covered

I hear ye. Regarding the stain, these are the photos they sent me to approve, and seeing the ones they did in the past they all the tips were stained that why it worries me a bit too.

I would ask that the door was actually hung on the hinges then. It looks like packing on the top which means they might have sent while staining and wothout the door hung. Ask for additional pics to confirm staining is uniform and door doesnt have gap

I agree the stain on the front door has wayyyy too dark of a spot and the door gap is hardly exceptable. Is the gap something you think you can adjust on your own? That would be my go to route as I'd hate to ship back and forth for a third time. And for the dark spot... maybe try sanding down and staining yourself as well. Sounds like a PITA but better than sending it all back for that too?!?!?!

my stand is identical. Had the same gap in my door and imperfections in the stain.

I refinished my stand so I cannot help with the stain. But for the door gap. I went to Lowes and bought 1/2" foam door sealer, comes in a roll, you peel the tape of the back and stick it on. I put that around the perimeter in side the stand/door to block light. Works great!

I haveto say it's actually a big turn off for me after hearing such good things about SCA that they can't make a decent stand for the amount of money I'm paying. I think the MDF ones might even look better.

Interesting those two stands are first ive seen with issues not caused from shipping damage.

How is the cabinet over all? Do you have any photos?

Let's see some more stands. I"m not interested in seeing one close up. I was interested in doing the tank and stand and not having to build my own stand this time . . .
