SC Aquariums Owners Thread

You may want to check the dim's on the 130.
The skimmer compartment dimensions on my 80 gallon SCA are 10 1/2" x 11". I had snap up a Vertex 150 skimmer last year on a special online buy. I was planing on using it for this tank. But turns out that the skimmer compartment on this sump is to small. I can't get it to fit with the pump on it. I guess i may have to use the skimmer that can with system, and sell my vertex 150. Boy this is really painful!

Smite how much rock do you have in your tank? It looks just about the quantity I would like. Slowly making progress on my setup will post pictures when I have something. I am using a Durso drain 1-1/2" drain to accommodate it I have to adapt to rubber tubing up to the lock lines. I also am integrating a carbon/gfo canister in the return line, and have oversized the return pump to a dc6000. I also will plumb a port for a turf scrubber if I feel I need it later. In the mean time it will be convenient to use it for water changes.

I greatly appreciated reading everyones feedback on this thread. I'm considering ordering either the 112 or 150g tank SC Aquariums tank. My only concern is the single 1x inch drain. I'll likely purchase PM sump and Vertex Omega skimmer with a Sicce pump (model# 4?). I'll make sure to post whatever I decide"¦meanwhile, your of wisdom are always welcome!

Cheers,
Majdi

What are you gonna do with the back right corner section? I have that sump from them.

I got the 150g. Are you getting the set or just the tank? I replaced my SCA-303 skimmer with RLSS R8-i. I also replaced the return pump with Jebao DC 12000. The sump is nice and the way it's designed you will not over flow either the sump or DT when the pump/drain has problems. And if you don't like the durso design right now (I didn't. Making it herbie this coming TG weekend.), you can actually ask them to cover the drain holes and take the overflow away. That way you can put a bean animal if you want.

My SCA 90 showed up today, I have a solid stand and it came with a canopy. I don't think I will use the canopy as I really like the rimless look. Currently trying to figure

out if I like the sump.

the 1" drain is plenty. ive got a jebao dc12000 hooked up to mine and it pulls just fine!

Thanks for the quick feedback. Do you have the Jebao open all the way, or do you have to manipulate it to match the flow?

Based on some of the mixed reviews, I only plan to buy the tank. I ordered the Vertex Omega skimmer, and Sicce return pump from BRS…and will purchase a PM refugium sump from a LFS. I'd like build a stand (or having someone one build it) since I'd like a taller stand (40"), and use a glass canopy. What do you think of their cabinet build?

I'll try the overflow pluming the way it's designed for now…unless it ridiculously loud. In my dream world, I'd like to set it up one time…and enjoy doing water changes and chasing the water parameters. :deadhorse1:

it can be open all the way with no issue!

:

At 90 and over I think? They use real solid wood. It's sturdy and perfect match. Having said that, if I were to do it all over again, I would make my own stand. However, the tank is 2" tall. If your stand is 4" tall, it would make it nearly impossible to reach down. Trust me, you are gonna do that, a lot!! And using a ladder is a lot more dangerous than you think. You will lean in a lot and the balance will be off.

I would build a much bigger stand. I keep wishing I had more space underneath for more equipments.

I love how quick everyone is jumping on this thread. I keep battling over having a taller cabinet to enjoy the tank while sitting or standing"¦but the cleanup headache is a valid point. Just curious, how tall is the cabinet? My wife likes the sleek design they have on the website"¦she's typically not a fan of most tank cabinets.

I like their large sump, but I'm leaning towards a 36" Precision Marine sump to give me a little room underneath. httpp://s530af179d9740.img.gostorego.com/809E82/cdn/media/s5/30/af/17/9d/97/40/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/1/5/150g_side_view_1.jpg[/IMG]

So, is there anything you guys recommend I request the manufacturer do different?

Anyone with the 80 gallon or 66 gallon, what size is the skimmer compartment? I emailed an ebay seller and he doesn't know... Hoping a Vertex 130 would fit, 6.5 inch by 11 inch seems to big from pictures, but I want confirmation.

In case you are wondering, the stand is 32" tall. I am 6' tall and I can barely reach the sand with the tip of my fingers.

Thanks, that gives me a better appreciation for working around a 24" tall tank. I'm 5'8" and my wife is shorter. I'll call SC Aquariums on Friday to submit my order"¦they should have a black friday sale going.
