SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Hey guys, so I thought I should share progress on the stand for my 150. It has taken a very long time and has been quite expensive but the project is nearing completion.

Stand is built from 1.5" square steel tubing topped with a 1/4" steel plate that extends 3/4" out past the frame. Frame is fully boxed with industrial polyurethane coating. The stand will have 3 door panels on the front and one on each side that tuck flush with the tank. Panels are 3/4" hardwood plywood and will be covered with fumed etimoe veneer (african rubber tree) and marine varnish.

Crystal Dynamic

Crystal Dynamic

Wow wish I would have ordered with SCA instead of Crystal Dynamic Aquarium. Not for the price but the build quality and customer service!

Looking at the pictures above on this page make the edges on my custom take look like they cut the edges by hand followed by hand sanding and buffing. Maybe I'm being to critical as I am sure the SCA's are mass production aquariums..

I hope your tank will come out great:thumbsup: there is a local thread about one with less than quality workmanship So check out it out very closely. Sorry I do not want to rain on your parade but just a word of caution.

I love the stand.

Settings, I don't know if SCA would be considered a mass production tanks, not when compared to what marineland or aqueon, but it appears practice does make perfect.

I am pretty sure they are sourced from China. (Can't remember where I heard this from)

Not that it would matter anyway because they are good aquariums. Just look at Innovative Marine and their tanks. I know that IM sources their tanks from outside the U.S.

Its true, SCA does not build the tanks, they outsourced it to a manufacturer in China or Taiwan. But considering even ELOS is having issues with quality, where the tanks are built doesn't make a difference.

This is Steve from SCA, I finally got a chance to check out our owner thread. If you any question, please feel free to ask me.

Hey Steve! I bought my 150 set directly from you. I still have your phone number. LOL

Do you guys do any customization? Or just whatever is on the website (size wise)?

Yes, we do customization tank and cabinet as well. usually take about 8 weeks to get it shipped from the factory.

We are having a lot of more size in stock now.

New size: 34 gallon 24x18x18"H, 45 gallon 24x24x18"H 75 gallon 36x24x20"H
100 gallon 48x24x20"H, 180 gallon 60x24x29"H, 210 Gallon 72x24x28"H, 240 Gallon 72x24x32"H. All Starfire Glass on the front 3 panels.

Awesome I only have 5 feet to work with so that 180 tall sounds promising

I'm holding out in hopes for some blackfriday deals *cough*

What lighting are you running? I have the 90 gallon (36 x 24 x 24) cube I bought about 5 months ago, and I'm just starting to get things set up. I was contemplating getting 2 T247's for this. I don't think I can justify the price of some of the higher end LED's when these lights seem to get great reviews and are affordable.

So far my 120 sc tank is great. It's only been up for 2 months but no complaints. Great customer service for sure.

They look like AI's. Nice Aqua scape sk8elenex92

Ye those are the ai sol blues. So far my coral have been always open and showing great color but to early to truly tell.
My buddy has the t247 and his tank is doing amazing. I would deft get those lights. The only reason I have them is because I found them locally very cheap.

Finally finished my TANK! I picked up my 50g cube used from a guy that was getting out of the hoby back in April. I was kind of reluctant to buy a use tank but it was a sweet deal that I couldn't pass up. I was pretty happy with the SCA cube but me being me I had to make it my own.....

Old tank

New Sump
-I rebuild the baffles and added some white vinyl.

Apex mounting board

Tank 2.0
- I plumbed my tank with the herbie overflow method useing 1" pvp(F'ing love it! It's super quite.) So with great caution drill the 1/2" hole to 1". Lined the inside of the cabnet with white vinyl and added some nice LEDs I got off amazon to light the cabnet.

Sorry for the HUGE pics... don't know how to make them smaller.

Current Equipment:
Radion XR-15
MP10wqd
Apex gold w/ WXM
Eshopps Dosing Pumps
SCA 301 skimmer
BRS Dual Reactor
Lifeguard quite one pro 2000
Tunze ATO
Eheim 150w
Wave Point Mirco Sun 6.5k
2x Ipettie aquarium cooling fan(3-fan) (does a great job keeping my tank 4-5 degrees under ambient temp)
LE Dimmbale Under Cabnet Lighting
Hello Boltline,
So did you end up with 3 bulkheads in the overflow with 2 1" for overflows and 1 3/4" for the return? I will be ordering the SCA 50 and also want to run a Herbie? Or is your return over the top of the tank?

Hey Millz, I used the 2 1" holes for the bottom. I drilled the 1/2" hole to 1". It was a lot easy than I thought it would be. For the return I use 1" silicone tubing and reduce it to 1/2" at the top of the tank. I love the herbi set up but if I were to do it again I would have made the emergency drain a little higher. Maybe just slightly below the Wiers.

Just joined the club as well :)
Got a great deal on a 50g cube setup (with white solid wood stand unfortunately lol!) for a great deal at Reefapalooza. William is such a cool guy [emoji106]🏼. Transferred everything over from my JBJ 28g cube into the new setup a few days ago. I love the tank but my only issue at the moment is the noise from the durso drain. To quote my baby brother, " sounds like a sleeping dragon lol!" To me it sounds like a cross between a toilet flushing and the waves crashing as well water being sucked down a drain :(
Went to the hardware store and unfortunately piping don't match up. I tried everything I could to try to silence it: fiddled with the hole on top of the durso and inserted some tubing to regulate air flow, switched the durso for a Maggie, and just went looking for pipes and union ball valves to try to regulate the return but unfortunately just found out the hard way that nothing matches up from the hardware store.
Notified William and he responded right away even on a Sunday! Says he will be shipping me some pipes and stuff. Hopefully he includes bulkheads I can actually find plumbing for. Family is quite upset about the noise but I'm sure I'll resolve this issue soon enough. I hope I get the plumbing parts soon. The tank is amazing otherwise and j would still recommend their tanks and their customer service is great too [emoji16][emoji106]🏼[emoji106]🏼[emoji106]🏼
Guess ill keep y'all posted

After the aquarium arrives I am getting ready to move my Nanocube inhabitants and LR and LS to the new tank along with the water. Since it is a larger tank, how should I do it?

I just transferred to a 50g from a 28g. I tried to match all my parameters to lessen the stress as much as possible such as salinity and temp. I also opted to use new live sand and new water. It's too early to tell but I lost one fish and my coral haven't opened up fully yet. It's been about a couple of days. I'll keep ya posted. I also used dr Tims in attempt to hold back any new cycling the tank will be going through. Not sure if this is the right way or best way but it's what I thought of since I didnt have the luxury of cycling the new tank before I transferred everything. The wifey only allowed me one tank and that's it lol!
