SC Aquariums Owners Thread

I am over three weeks with the tank up and running and over one week with all the fish from my 16 gal tank in the 50 gal cube. So far everyone seems happy with their new space.
Ran a water test today.
PH 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite between 0 and .25
Nitrate 5

So the Ammonia stayed the same, and Nitrite and Nitrate have fallen slightly. I'm going to give it a few more weeks before I try adding more fish or corals.

So far, I don't have any algae growing, which I'm ok with. The light I'm using lets me kill the red, yellow, green, and adjust the white and blue. Looking forward to when I get the reef Breeders Photon V2 on there.

Have a question for you guys. The 16 still has water and filtration running. I haven't transferred any of the hermit crabs or snails over yet. Could/should I move them over to the 50 gal (I don't think there's much for them to eat in the new tank) or re-home then and get more once the tank is better established?

Hope you are all enjoying your tanks as much as I am. I've got mine in my office/man cave. I get so distracted while I'm doing homework at my desk. I have to force myself not to look at the tank and watch the fish. LOL.
Stupid master's degree keeping me from watching my fish!

You can put the snails and hermits in the new tank and simply feed them. Many when they add the CUC initially to a tank have to suppliment feed. Its not an issue

Plumbing question...The return pipe that sit inside the overflow box, should I just leave it as it came (pressure fit) or should I glue the "T" portion and reducers?

The is the return from the pump. You will want to glue that on in as it will be seeing pressure.

Apex....... ARGH!

Apex....... ARGH!

My Apex (2016) arrived on Friday. I've got something going on with the energy bar. I have no power to the outlets. ARGH! I'm sure its something I did while setting it up. I just wish things performed complex tasks without requiring me to do complex things to make them work. LOL

My Reef Breeders Photon V2 LED should arrive on Tuesday.

Man that tank stand is getting crowded! Its enough to make me want to go out and convert my 210 gal tank over to salt. LOL.

Im spending tomorrow building a sliding cabinet for my electronics as i am out of room in my stand as well. Such us life with salt. A ton of gear that eats up space.

Yea, I know the feeling. I replaced my apex with vertex cerebra and man this thing is a pta to program in comparison. Best of luck!!!

Got my 90 looking pretty much the way I want it. Not totally happy with the left pillar but it's already stuck together with thermomorph and it serves its purpose of making a place for the gigantea.

bean animal in starphire 150 overflow

bean animal in starphire 150 overflow

Hello everyone! So, I couldn't pass up the deal sc.aquariums had on the 60x24x24 for 777.00. I was looking to get a reef savy overflow and bean animal on a custom tank, but thought it might be possible to do it on this tank since it has three 1in holes drilled, and I can run the return up the back. I am almost done modifying my cabinet and canopy to fit this tank(old tank was a 60x18x24) and will be ready to start plumbing. Has anybody done this with their sc.aquarium? Couple of questions/concerns I have is if there will be enough room in the overflow box, and how high/low the full siphon should be. Most of what I have read on the bean-animal is done one coast to coast or more shallow overflow boxes. Couldn't find anything for this deep of an overflow. Thanks! Look forward to posting my build!

I think you'll be fine with the size of the overflow... I don't have my tank yet, but ordered the 60x24x24 as well. I contacted Steve about the tanks and he said the standard overflow would be 11"x5.5". This should be plenty.

I did have them customize the overflow in my tank. I will have it close to the wall so ordered a corner overflow (8"x8"), with 4 holes, so I can run a bean animal and return through the bottom to my basement sump.

With 3 holes, you can do the 2 drain herbie with return line, or run a bean animal and return over the top. I don't like the look of the over the top return line though, but if you going to use the canopy, it wouldn't really matter.

Here's a drawing of my tank, should be arriving around Feb 15th... Supposedly, only the 2nd-3rd Corner overflow tank SCA has done. The other one was an 88 gallon back in 2009. Hopefully it holds up nicely!

Looks nice. I kind of wish I went corner overflow too. Pain in the *** to have it in the center when it's against a wall. Not sure why I didn't think of that before I ordered.

Yea I mean I couldnt really go with the center overflow in my situation. Would have just looked goofy where it's going to sit.

It was a little but if an upcharge though. Before the stand and canopy, I think The tank itself $900-$950 instead of the sale of $777. I did order the last week of December. I think they build tanks and ship a lot at a time since it's probably really pricing shipping. My tank was done last week. Just have to wait for the next shipment of tanks to get it.

I thought I'd join in on the fun. I picked up a used 90 cube. I took out the center overflow and modified the sump to fit my needs. I'm using an Eshopps Eclipse for the overflow. For the return pump, I picked up a Jebao Dcp-6500. Here's some pics

As I mentioned in a previous post my apex arrived. I ran into a problem with the power bar but as I suspected it was operator error. Needed an update. 5 minutes later and I was up and running.
Now to figure out the alarms and messaging.. the Apex Furman has a ton of info. Maybe too much info to go through in one or two days. Lol.

A couple of folks suggested waiting to perform my first water change. I'm in my 4th week. I'd really like to do a 5 gallon water change. Too soon????

you can do a water change whenever after you have stock and such in there. The only time people should hold off is during a cycle as that slows things down. Feel free to swap out water

Thanks for the feedback. I like the looks of the corner overflow. Worth the extra $. It looks a lot better actually. I'm not a huge fan of the middle overflow, but for that price, I'll take it. Your exactly right that the return running up the back will not matter when my canopy is on. Plus, my tank will be centered in a corner of a room, that is just wasted space, so I didn't need to worry about being flush to the wall either. I'm thinking it might be a little cramped with the full and partial siphon t's and elbows in the overflow box, but should be able to adjust everything to fit. I have been very happy with the quality of my tank thus far, I'm sure they will do a good job on yours. Have you or any one else, thought about how the glass perimeter bracing will affect your lighting or aquascaping? I'm thinking of using that "overhang" as a guideline for my LR placement. I'm thinking it would be hard to clean under that glass if I have LR to close to the edges of the tank.
