SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Yeah I think it averages around 180 after displacement. lol I actually never calculated I only cared about the dimensions

Nice looking tank. I'm waiting on a quote for my custom 150g from Steve.

Noticed that it looks like they changed the way they do the eurobracing. They used to overlap the bracing in the corners. Did you request the bracing to be butt jointed versus overlapped?

Here I am 2 weeks into having this 90 "cube" running.

Really pleased with the Synergy Shadow overflow. Very quiet, easy to setup, and doesnt intrude on the inner tank space hardly at all. Was absolutely worth having to wait a little extra time for Steve to have his guys drill the tank custom for it.

ok, so I am thinking of building the stand for my 50 cube.
Can someone with 50 cube with wood stand please post or email (click name above my avatar and select email) me pics of the stand (front, side and all around the inside)?
I googled and can't find much.

I found this, that is supposed to be oak wood stand. It does not look like it use any 2x4 post, and its just the 3 side plywood holding up the stand, and the 2x4 around the top. I kinda like this style, just a simple box, but open to other ideas/design.

Also, how do you finish the edge of the plywood? just sand it smooth?

any help appreciated.

Hey soulpatch, I am ordering an Apex classic. I want to build an electronics cabinet for it while I am waiting for it to arrive. I have a couple questions I was hoping you could answer.

How deep is your cabinet from the white mounting board to the edge of the gray trim? I plan on doing something similar to what you did except with a door. I want to make it deep enough so that the door will close. Is 5" enough depth allowing for the eb8 and any plugs?

Also I see you left yourself lots of room in between modules to add and remove wires but what do you think the minimum space is I could get away with? Could two inches be enough?

Thanks for your help.

I can get you measurements when I get back Sunday but I believe there is 4 inches from board to edge. You can go thinner if you get flat plug extensions. Yes the modules can be closer but I left room to grow as needed.

Honestly had I not wanted it thin e nigh to be able to go behind the stand to begin with (That idea got scraped) I would have just bought am ikea AV cabinet with smoked doors...

That would be great thanks. Yes I looked at Ikea cabinets but I have some nice scrap plywood that I would like to use up. Being in our living room I am going to try to make it as compact as possible and paint it the color of our walls so it blends in.

50g stand

50g stand

Doughboy,

I build my own stand. For some reason, I am unable to post the pictures that give the best views. I used the King of DIY's method for build a stand. basically its three 2x4s in each corner. 2 are load bearing and one forms that part of the box. This stand is rock solid. Now I had to build the stand just a little bigger than the tanks foot print so I could do everything I wanted inside with the sump. Instead of doors, I put trim on the corners. The doors, instead of opening, slide out and away. I did this on the front and one side. This gives me access to the sump from two different angles.

Can I bother any of you guys with the 150g (60x24x24) to post the actual outside dimensions of the tank? I'm trying to plan a stand for a new tank while it's being built. Would like the stand to be ready when the tank ships.

TIA

What wave maker or circulation pump to use for a 50 pnp?

I have an MP10 on my 50 along with a Tunze 6015. I'm debating on removing the MP10 and getting 2 of the Aqamai KPS pumps. I originally placed the MP10 on the right side and had good water flow, but dead spots to the front right and rear right of the tank. I also despised having it on the side as it really stands out and is distracting.

I've since moved it to the rear panel on the right of the overflow with the Tunze on the left side of the overflow. I have less dead spots, but not quite the flow I want through the center of the tank. It's not bad flow or dead, but I plan on putting a few SPS there and I don't believe I have enough flow for what I want.

That said, an MP10 is enough flow for most. I personally just don't like that I can angle it across the tank to intersect with the flow from an opposing pump.

If I put the mp10 on the left or right side of the overflow and used a koralia and angled it towards the center will that work? I have a koralia 425 thats why I'm using that as an example.

its really impossible to tell someone what powerhead(s) would work best for them. Everyone has different rockwork, livestock, and end goals. AND these things typically degrade into what that person is using as many dont have experience with a wide gamit of powerheads. People tend to find what works for their tank or budget and go from there.
