Scared of XM

I had the 20 K bulbs. They are really blue and the par is really low. Even my Toadstool grew slow under this bulb.

Yes, but the point of the thread isn't if xm's look good or produce good par.

Those two points are related to the quality of the lamp. My post referred to my experience with the quality of these lamps. Read more carefully.

Please be careful not to take offense nor to offend. My point was that the original concern was reports of yellow color coming from xm10k's. From there some spoke of getting the occasion bad bulb. This is the quality issue I was referring to. If you get a good bulb then your points are valid, but with xm10k's there is apparently an additional concern. The higher occasion of bad bulbs or color shift. I did not intend to offend.

Arconom do you have pics of your tank with the reeflux.
I am going to go with them but would love to see what they look like.

3 year xm user. I get 1 bad bulb everytime I get 3. I change bulbs every 9 months.

with (3) 250MH, (4) 110VHO, and (2) 160watt VHO's on there I will be getting exactly 6wpg.... my tank now with only 440watts VHO on a 75 gallon....

How are you planning to fit 6' bulbs (160 watt bulbs) on a 4' long tank ? How are you going to fit 3 halides & 6 VHO's of any length on a 75 gal tank ?

I just installed 3 250w 10k CV Reeflux on CV E-ballast. They look great. Sooo bright. If you like white with a hint of blue that is these. I only have a camera phone but i can try to get a pic.

please re-read.... My tank NOW is 75gallons with 5.8WPG, I will have a 210gallon aka 6foot with 6wpg..
see?

please re-read

I did....read all your posts 3 times......still never saw mention of a 210 gal, 6' long tank until now.

How are you planning on using 4' VHO's (110 watt) on a 6' tank? Are you going to overlap them ?

I appologize, I must have just posted on my other thread...

I plan on running the three 250W MH and Four 110W VHO, staggering them and also two 160W VHO's

I was thinking about going the XM 10k or the EVC 10k or 14k. How much of a change in par is there between the 10k and 14k EVC?

I don't know if I'd do an evc 14k only. The graph on sanjay's site looks just like the sun14k. If you look at the 250w lamp thread/website the sun14k lamp is kind of neon blue in color. It would make a great bulb to pare with a 10k though.

I installed 2 x 250W 10K XM's two days ago. When they first came on one was very yellow but the other perfect.

I contacted Premium Aquatics and they said that they have to burn in and not to worry, and should adjust in 100 hours.

Yesterday the one yellow bulb turned to white like the other.

They look great.

Specs out kind of yellow on sanjay's site. Especially the 250. The 400 on a bluline ballast is the only one that specs at 10k.

Ironman, from what I have read there isnt supposed to be a burn in time according to XM... hum....

this still worrys me....

EVC? care to explain anyone? not heard of these people.

I've got an XM 10K DE250 bulb that wont light on either my Icecap electronic, or my ARO electronic.

Anyone know who I can contact?

Shawnts106, I purchased my bulbs from Premium Aquatics and they said that if the bulb fails to brighten up after 100 hours, they would replace it.

If I see the light yellow out again after 100 hours I'll get it replaced.

Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Ironman, I would pitch a FIT with them, I would demand a refund or replacement because of what the MAKERS of the bulb, XM, said... there is a quote somewhere on this site, where they say there is NO BURN IN TIME...

I would contact XM via email or such, and get them to give you a writen statement that there is INDEED no Burn In time and then go to the people you bought the bulb from directly!

that is their way of saying, hum... lets postpone sending him a new bulb as long as possible... which is BULL!

I would seriously kick up on this!
