Sceptical about my ETSS Skimmer

I just dialed in an ETSS 600 Skimmer. I says to only have the water line in the skimmer 'approximately 1" into the first clear section above the black sump box'. I just can't see this whole chamber actually filling with a thick foam in order for it to actually start to create skimate.

How do others who use these skimmers like them? I've always had in-sump euroreefs, really liked them, but went with an ETSS this time.

Also, do you really set the water line that low in the riser?

I just finished dialing it in late last night, I'm anxious to see how it looks tonight when I get home.

I haven't had an ETS in years but when I did, and when paired up with the proper sized pump, yes, that entire chamber above the "black box" would fill up with foam with the water level just below the black box. I would adjust at or slightly above the top of the black box. I do remember when first installed it took several days to break-in because all I did was give it a warm water rinse before installing.
