scooter blenny diet

My LFS sold me this scooter blenny for very cheap and when I asked him what to feed him they told my mysis well my other fish eat the dry frozen mysis but this sucker hasn't eaten all week. What do they eat?? Please don't say only pods bc I don't have a sump or fuge.

Their requirements are nearly identical to a Mandarin's. So yes, they do need to be able to constantly hunt for pods. They can be weened onto frozen foods, but that is not always successful. If I were you I would return this fish.

My 1st pair. M&F. I trained them to eat other foods. Slowly add new food to what they were eating. I did this by spot feeding with a large eyedropper. Soon afterward when they saw it... they came right up to it and bumped it. I couldn't squeeze it softly fast enough. I regret to this day of giving them to my friend. Now, what I did for my new male scooter was... I kept him in a 10 gallon QT tank. I trained him to eat frozen, and each few days I mixed in a new type of food. Now he eats, brime, mysis, sqid, daphina, silverside, tobiko, bloodworms. To this day, when he is hungry, he will come up to the front of the tank when he see's me and swim back in forth. I have a 28" deep tank which seems all the piggies gets some of the food before him. So, I do have a special place that I will make sure he eats enough by spot feeding him.

Well I went back to the lfs and purchased a big bag of live brine shrimp and sprinkled quite a bit in the tank and sure enough he got on the hunt. He was sloppy at first and couldn't get the hang of it but he eventually caught on to what he was suppos to do and he ate good. And the clowns and firefish had some new food they enjoyed. I never seen the firefish eat so much

What I find is the scooter eats a lot slower. Bite, looks around, takes another bite. I do have to turn off my powerheads while making sure he gets enough food.

what size tank do you have and how much rock is in the tank?

reason i ask is if you really like the fish then you can always get live pods to put into the tank and keep the population up. but if you have a smaller tank of less then 55g i wish you best of luck at keeping him long term without some sort of fuge or something for breeding pods. even if you get them to eat froozen food wich i have done many times with different dragonets, they still need to eat and hunt 24/7... so more then often they end up slowly starving.

+1

My mandarin eats the same way. I turn the pumps off and she'll pig out on a pile of mysis that I place on her favorite rock. With the pumps on she eats nothing.

i have a 38 gallon fowlr with 40 lbs of lr all kinds of cliffs and caves i'm going to moving soon and i have a 55 gal in storage that i'm going to work on that will have a sump and fuge and the works but my LFS over price their fish so thats why i havnt fully stocked my tank with a lot of fish or even coral yet so i'm going to keep the 38 but in 2 weeks i'll start on my 55 gal project and i'll go the pods in there b/c i want mandarins too
