Scooters hard to keep??

Are blennies really as hard to keep as all of the websites say they are, for example: live aquaria states that a scooter blenny is difficult/ marine depot live states they are a high maintanence fish/ but then saltwaterfish.com states they are easy???? whats with this, can they really be this hard? Thanks in advance, Mike

Scooter blennies are just annoying to keep 'cause of their need for a big feeding area. They eat alot. The LFS said they require at least a 80 gallon fish tank 'cause they eat so much.

well...I made the mistake of buying two in a 55g tank. yes they are small, and no they have not killed each other....but they are always trying to find food. I don't know of this helps....but I am getting rid of one in my tank.......everybody that sees my tank loves them cuase they look cool......and like I have said....they are surviving....and have been in my tank for about 3-4 months now.....so.....if you add one...just add one...and don't do what I did......hope I can catch him too......

Well, I got lucky. I've had my scooter blenny now for about six weeks, and he's doing great. He's actually grown, and his stomach has filled out quite nicely. I've only got a 40g tank, but I have over 80 pounds of live rock. (Also have a refugium with a good supply of amphipods and copepods).

The reason I say I got lucky is that my scooter blenny actually eats Formula Two pellets! I threw some in there for the peppermint shrimp one day (they love them), and much to my surprise, "Scooter" came out of nowhere and devoured most of what I put in.

His diet now consists of copepods, amphipods, live brine shrimp and Formula Two pellets, and he's king of the tank. (He's only got two false percs for company).

Oh yeah...one more thing.

The scooter blenny is actually a "dragonette".... so treat it as such. If you don't have the live rock and a refugium to supply you with lots of pods - then I'd probably refrain from getting one.

I have had a great experience with my scooter dragonets. I have a 90 gal with about 120 lbs. of rock. They, in my opinion, are very hardy and they do love to eat. I got them after having my tank for 4 months and then I only had about 50 lbs. of live rock. I had a male/female pair and sometimes they would chase each other in and out of the rockwork. Unfortunately I lost the male in one of my older P.O.S. powerheads. The female is still kicking though.

I've had mine for a little over a year now. I think the key is lots of live rock and a big tank.

they also like pods, mine used too search the sides of the tank nonstop for them

Ive got two of them in my 135g and i love them...fun to watch and are always sifting through the sand and puffing out the sand...cool to watch
