Scopas and yellow tangs? Is there a difference besides color?

Looking hard at getting a scopas tang. Was not really interested because of drab color, but saw three today at LFS and really liked them. Very similar to the yellow so is there really any difference except the color? Thanks

Short answer I would say very similar in needs - if you could keep a yellow happy you can keep a scopas happpy

Scopas tangs get larger than yellows, but in terms of care they are pretty much the same. Give them nori daily along with meaty or pellet foods for a balanced diet.

Scopas tend to be a little more laid back than yellows as well as the larger size. Care for them is pretty similar, though...

Thanks,figured they are about the same regards to care. Anyone care to share a pic of theirs? It's not flashy, so wondering what made you decide to purchase one. I love the subtle colors actually.

My Scopas and sail fin tang are the 2 biggest show boats in my tank.

You have the scopas in the 90? How big is it?

My scopas and sailfin are each about 3". I have a naso (about 1.5") and a blue tang less than an inch in that tank also. Small tank for them all yes! In the future as they grow, but have a 220 in the garage empty with most equipment to set it up and working on a deal for a 300.

Contrary to what most say about multiple tangs in a tank and a small one at that they all get along great.

Apparently the scopas is more efficient at clearing algae. Can't speak from experience with that though.
