A local hobbyist, tearing down his tank and moving, made me a very happy camper, the other day.

I went over to check out what he had available

asside from 2 basketball sized Green Slimers and a beautiful Milli, I was thrilled to see an Oregon Tort COLONY!! Unfortunately, in order to get it, I had to take the entire rock, which also included a giant green with purple rimmed Monti cap and a decent sized colony of ORA Miami Orchid, along with tons of Pom Pom Xenia and some Majano anemone...grrr.

What the heck, I already have Majano, in my 200, along with a Matted Filefish, who's been doing an amazing job, for the past 3 weeks, of eradicating the pesky Majanos. Besides, all the colonies came off the rock and were separated, prior to going in my tank.

In it's new home...

Hundreds of mini brittle stars were all over the rock, as I was removing the colonies, so those were an added bonus. The rock is now outside, sans the 3 SPS colonies. Majano and Pom Pom Xenia can rot away...lol. I'll let the rock completely die, then get it cycled to re-use. It's a beautifully shaped piece, at least 15 pounds.

What a score.....I wont even ask how much that costs. I imagine it was expensive but a still a steal. Awesome.

Very nice, probably one of the largest Oregon Tort colonies I've seen. Can't imagine how long it took him to grow that bad boy out because its a fairly slow grower. Can't wait till mine grows out like that:) Congrats on the find!!!

Nice find. I would have fragged up the xiena and sold it.

I thought about it. The only thing keeping me from it is that I DO NOT want Xenia in ANY of my tanks...lol. Knowing my luck, I'd put it in my frag tank, sell some of it, maybe even all of it, quickly, only to find it growing in the tank, a month later! Nope! Been there done that!

That's not what you usually find at tank teardown sale:)

I just saw the biggest Oregorn Tort colony I've ever seen. Anybody who is looking for some, they run a home business tropicalreefcorals.com. Their Oregon Tort was volleyball to basketball sized. They've had it about six years. They said they were about the fifth frag sold from the origional colony in Oregon.

It has definitely been a find that doesn't happen often. Luckily, I know exactly where this person bought his frag, and I know that the colony his frag was cut from, came directly from the original owner, as well. So, the colony I now have, came from the original owner of the Oregon Tort, to two other people, then me. WooHoo!

He's got a beautiful A. cerealis that I might go back for, Friday. It's the deepest purple I've ever seen, in a A. cerealis, with bright green polyps.

Its that you tank in the PO or it it the tank you got the corals from? The green slimer is huge. I know it is a fast grower but man it is tall.

Unfortunately, I had to take the entire rock?!? To get a colony like that, and some ORA Miami Orchid, and some nice sounding monti, I'd take all the rock, xenia and majanos that person had. I might even see if they have some crabs, starfish, and flatworms to throw in as well. That's a super nice looking Oregon Tort. I'm hoping the one that I got from Dang turns out that nice someday. Score indeed!

The first 2 photos are of the tank that's being taken down. The third pic is in my tank. The green slimer, in the other person's tank, is the size of a basketball and is actually at the very bottom of the tank, and flattening out, at the surface...lol. It's a 90.

Yeah the "Unfortunately," was kind of sarcasm...lol. The rock is outside, Majanos and Xenia all shriveled up and dying! Oregon Tort and Miami Orchid are both in the 200, while the pieces of Monti cap are in the 40 breeder. The cap had to be destroyed, to get the Oregon Tort off, in one piece. I didn't mind the sacrifice...lol.

Sssssssscooooooore! Nice, now the challenge will be integrating that beast into your system. Good luck man, I hope it flourishes for you!

Well, I've found a temporary spot for it, where it does fit nicely and allows surrounding corals enough room. I'll be paying close attention to parameters, in the near future, to see if such a large coral addition changes anything. I may need to slightly readjust my flow, as well.

yes it was quite upsetting to find u snaked this from under me

wont be asking you for buying advise again:) called you to see if it was a good deal and you ran over and bought it from under me
but i got the rest of the tank
