Things With Stings R Us!
It's very cool how you meet folks in this hobby. One of the members here on RC (somosomo) posted some watercolor paintings of reef fish HERE. I was so impressed by his work that I asked if he'd be interested in taking some commissions to work from some of Renee's photos. Since we have several photos of the fish at various ages, Nate worked from more than on pic.

Here's his first...Dendrochirus barberi

Here's a photo of the fish:

Just when we thought the hobby was expensive enuff...

I just love the way he nailed some of the small details...the salmon coloration and the yellow spots on her tail are easily missed. He got the supraorbital projections from some of her juvie pix.

He'll be doing D. biocellatus and our original R. frondosa in the near future.

Pretty cool, although it looks a lot more red/orange "warm" colored in the watercolor than the real life version. But I guess that's what makes it art and not a photo!

I suspect Nate worked to this photo a lot:

The fish was kind of at an "in-between" age, but yes...it is art. After all, it's not like Renee and I have no photos laying around if we want "exact" appearance.

I can't wait to see one of that frondosa!! (I miss seeing pics of that fish)

We miss that fish...I know it was one of those "will never pass this way again" specimens, even tho our "new" specimen is awfully nice-looking:

very well done- i note a calming tranquility about the painting that identifies the fishes personality- lets face it scorpionfish are ultimate jeckal and hydes. The appear harmless and calm- however upon seeing food- instantly convert into a fish gulping death machine

Here is my favorite scorp art-
infact i have this exact one at home- gotta love local artists

Nice looking artwork there frank.

I wonder if Nate would do one of my yellow fuzzy... Guess that means I would actually have to get a decent pic :-p

That's a nice print Frank. It's really rather odd that most artwork you see of lions are more like an odd "idea" of the fish.

Jarrod: Get in line! :P

I love it. Keep us updated on any new paintings. I would love to see. What's the size of the paintings? or the maximum size.

Gorgeous! My oldest daughter is a Portrait Artist (She fits the artist stereotype; the IQ of Einstein & the common sense of broccoli, she knows it too!)) and has painted several of our favorite fish since she was in high School. Some of the few things I was sure to pack when running from Katrina.
