hi i have a 125 gallon reef tank and just recently on thursday bought a australian scotts fairy wrasse i picked him out of quarintine he was eating mysis shrimp at the lfs i work at he had been in quarine tine for 6 hours. How long does it take for these guys to come out and when should i be worried.

Thanks Jeff

Wrasse normaly are very shy and scared when the enter a new environment. THey usually come around about a day or so but if it more then 2 then i would get to worrying.

6 hours is not enough quarintine time. This fish is likely still in shock from the trip. Flasher and fairy wrasses are espesially prone to loss in or right after shipping.

I Give all my wrasses a week at the store ( I give them a deposit to hold them for me) And at least 4 weeks in their own 10 gallon quarintine tank.

I have had a remarkable difference in survival rate.

i figured that he would be fine and be less stressed he wa sa tthe store plus if i wnated him at cos ti had to take him that day and he wa seating mysis shrimp. woke up this morining did not see him.

I pulled out all my rock last night 150 pounds and no wrasse.... do these guys bury themselves in the sand like pencil head wrasses?

Anyone else hav ethis happens before with a scotts fairy?

More Likely jumped!!!

Well there that possibilty too, but since he had probelm with it hiding form the get go , I'm guessing it got to stressed and croak and the clean up crew got it before he pull the rock

Its entirely possible that it was in one of the rocks you pulled out, seeing as how they hole up in crevaces to sleep. That being said I would say that the double acclimation in one day stressed it out.

NExt time, give it at least a couple days at the store. So you may have to pay more ,instead of cost as you stated, but at least you'll have a heathy fish!

Again, I am speaking from experence. I have 6 fairys in quarintine now, and have had several more in the past.
