screen blank and not able to connect

This morning, I was trying to the wave feature of my profilux on my new tank, and when I plugged in the y adapter to the controller, I got a long beep and then the profilux screen went blank. I unplugged the controller and plugged it back in and now I have no interface. I tried to connect it to my computer via the rs 232 cable, but it will not connect.

Please advise.

Chris

Hi Chris,

that doesn't sound good. Did you unplug the y-cable before you unplugged and plugged back the ProfiLux?
You plugged the splitter into a L-port to connect 2 Tunze-cables, right?

Yes, I unplugged the y-cable first, and then the profilux. I plugged the splitter into L1/L2 and from the other side of the splitter, I plugged in the 2 tunze cables.

This is ok. I wonder what happened; did you maybe plug the cable into a S-port accidentally? It seems the ProfiLux is damaged. Is the AC/DC-adaptor still working (green LED must be on)? Maybe "only" the adaptor is damaged.
Had the Tunze pumps (respectively the driver boxes) been connected while that happened?
Anyway, if you can't restart the ProfiLux it must be exchanged or repaired.
And before reconnecting we must find the reason for all this.

Please try this:
Disconnect power, RS232 and all cables to all L- and S-ports and then connect only the power again.
Is the device booted now?

Tried this and still no display. The device is getting power but no visible screen.

Splitter was plugged into the L1/L2.

Green light is still on, device is getting power and blue LEDs are functioning, but no display.

The tunze drivers were on and running when I plugged the splitter into L1/L2.

Hi

If the Tunze drivers were on and running when you plugged it into the ProfiLux, the chances are you are going to cause quite a power surge which will damage the ProfiLux.

The main point is now getting the unit repaired for you promptly. I will talk to Matthias about getting this sorted for you.

Advice for everyone really - when plugging items into the profiLux ALWAYS make sure no power is being applied. This goes for any computer equipment.

I will let Matthias answer you more directly on that as he is the manufacturer.

it is also not just about surge, when you plug in a live cable there is a chance of spiking.

But which ever way, we are here to help and will get you back up and running, that is our ONLY concern.

I appreciate that Michael.

I'm surprised that there is no fuse in the device.

I purchased my Profilux from Scott at Aquarium Speciatly.

WE will sort your issue out for you promptly.

The L ports on the ProfiLux are not just DC variable voltage outputs, but also have data input and outputs also, so even if the DC side was fused, it would still be very possible to spike a data line.

As already said, you are in good hands and we will have you up and running in short time.

Best wishes
Michael

Hi Chris

all I/O-lines are protected. But there are limitations in the protection.
Usually it is not necessary to power down everything when you are connecting devices to the ProfiLux. I am practicing "hot-plugging" here the whole day while developing the products - just no time for powering down all the time.
Maybe one of the Tunze-cables or the splitter is defective.
I think it is the best to change ProfiLux and the splitter and the Tunze-cables, just to be safe.
Further details will come via PM or mail.

Don't worry - we will find a solution soon.

Whatever you think is best Matthias. I will be out of town in Ireland for a week starting today, but I'll be able to check email and hopefully this message board. I sent you an email the other day about the gaming adapter, so if you would like, please use that email address.
