Scribbled Rabbitfish vs Two Barred Rabbitfish(pics)

I'm trying to decide between these two similar rabbits. The scribbled looks more attractive and is a bit smaller than the two barred. But I've heard the two barred eats almost any kind of marine algae.

Has anyone owned one or seen them in person? Any input would be appreciated!

I own a doliatus (scribbled) and it is a great fish, I think they are prettier than the two barred with all those stripes and more colorful as well. Both are great fish and tough as nails but I also believe the doli's stay a bit smaller. You cant go wrong with either fish but I just like the look of the doli's a little better.

I have a two barred. I got him primarily to eat byropsis. It never really did eat byropsis, though it may have pecked at it from time to time. It has grown very fast and very large. Plus, as with most rabbitfish, it is a complete spaz. Combine that with the ability to sting, makes a bad combination in my book. If I could catch it, I would remove it from my tank, but it is too much of a chicken to go into the fish trap, though every other fish in the tank has. Definitely not may favorite fish from a looks or personality standpoint. So unless you just really like a rabbitfish, I would say get something else.

Ive had both....currently have a scribbled. IMO they are the same fish just the scribbled is a bit prettier! Same personality and activeness in both. The two barred is more common as it comes from the Philippians and Bali where as the scribbled only(that ive seen) comes out of fiji

Does the scribbled actually help control algae? or does it just eat a ton of food and freak out and hide all the time?

Is the picture I posted actually what it looks like?

I have had my Doliatus for over 7 yrs now. He was around 2 inches when I got him and is now pushing 12" Great, beautiful fish. He gets along great with all of my others.

Wow, he is a beautiful fish!

Does he help control the algae in your tank? And does he freak out much? or is he more relaxed?

Also had a scribbled. Their coloration is awesome but like it has already been mentioned they eat and grow in a BIG way. Be prepared that they grow fast.

He grazes a bit on algea, but not like I wish he would. And they are spooked easily. You have to be careful around your tank when the lights are out.
I remember about 5 years ago, I got up around 5 am and was adding some water to my sump and spooked him. He jumped out the back of my tank. I knew his spines were poisenouse, so I grabbed a towel, picked him up and threw him back in the tank. Lesson learned. LOL
Dont sneak up to the tank unless he knows your coming.:)

Wow! I didn't know any Rabbitfish had that amount of color. Beautiful fish. Too bad they grow big..
