Scribbled Rabbitfish

Hi all,

I have a 110 gallon tank and am looking to add a new herbivore. This is not so much to "control" my hair algae, but something to enjoy eating this naturally grown organic product in my tank! I don't particularily like the look of a foxface. I love the gold spot, but it get to 1'4" which I find a bit much.

Does anyone have experience with the scribbled rabbitfish, I find it to be a very nice looking fish. I have read a few accounts of them eating zoas and some LPS, but wanted to see some personal experiences from people here.

Thanks.

Mine never nipped at any corals, but i do warn you they get huge..Mine is in a 300 gallon and i sti think he needs more room! they eat alot as well...which creates a serous bioload

I've got a scribbled in my 210, along with two foxfaces, all about 6". They've never bothered anything else that I've noticed, but I cannot keep zoas in this tank -- they slowly disappear until they're gone. I'm assuming they pretty much treat them like after-dinner mints. They get a sheet of nori in the mornings (which usually lasts about a minute and a half) and two - three feedings of pellets during the day (that are actually meant for the anthias, but these guys swipe the bulk of them).

They do get large, but I've had all three about three years, and the scribbled grew from 4" to 6" in the first year, and hasn't really gotten noticeably larger since. They are big, boisterous swimmers, and nearly as spooky and prone to startle as the foxfaces are.

I've had mine in a 150 Gallon for about 18 months or so. He's quite large now, probably 6 inches or a bit over, I'm looking to move him on now as I feel he is just a little too large for the tank. He's a great algae eater and I've never seen him nip at anything else. He does tend to stir the tangs up from time to time, flashing his flanks at them and showing his spines. The tangs put up with his behaviour most of the time but occasionally they get sick of it and give him a bit of a touch up. He leaves them alone for a while after that.

That is a beauty of a fish. Seems it will outgrow my 110g in a hurry. I already have a sailfin in there, so with this guy I will be WAY over my limit on fish that get too big for the tank.

The search continues....
