yes - they can run in the horizontal position

ok thanks, i am planning on running it horizontally under the tank then have the tubes run up the back. Minimizing space away from the wall

just make sure you take into account they plug easily and need t be cleaned often to keep working just a few grains of sand will stop them so location and position should be thought out for easy acess just headds up had one.

After time the baffle inside may get worn down in which case you'll need to replace the unit.
