sea grass refugia ?'s

Im thinking of setting up a sea grass refugia and have a few questions.

1) Is this realistic? with the ammount of uneaten food and detritus that will wind up in the fuge will this harm the seagrass?

2) What will the water change out on the seagrass bed consist of? I dont want to harm the grass but I will need to remove detr. and food.

3) will I still need to suppliment with NO3 and PO4 as well as FE?

4) also looking for a vendor I'm a few months away from officially starting as I have minimal knowledge of sea grasses and want to learn more. i.e. Problem solving, pruning. any links to grass pages are appreciated

1) Sure its realistic, quite a few people here myself included are maintaining seagrass tanks. A properly set up sand bed with a good diverse infauna population the sand bed should take of itself ( aside from occasional replenishment of infauna with a quality live sand ). The detritus that works its way into the sand bed via detritivore and bacterial action will help to feed the seagrass.

2) Water changes shouldnt need to be more frequent than any other tank, again the sand bed critters will really help you clean up.

3) Yes you may very well need to supplement to keep the grass happy. Check the sticky at the top of the forum " Old forum favorites" lots of info there.

4) Check Sarahs article here, good stuff.
