Sea Hare?

I am guessing he or she is eating, I see black string from his back side.. poop?? It's been a week and still hasn't seen any difference in the algae or whatever this is evading my tank. I may just pull all the rock out and get new live rock. This was all dry rock and I heard that could be the issue. Should I give it more time? I don't want him to starve.

They don't survive long. If you have an algae problem, the best solution is to watch your parameters (see the permanent notes atop this forum) and do your weekly water chnnges, and if your phosphate is high, to start working on that. If your algae is epic-bad, there are other rremedites. Phosban can help, coupled either with 20% water changess and patience, plus changing the medium once a week.. If really bad, fluconazole, with a really good skimmer --or a moderae one coupled with 20% weekly water changes. Algae depends on phosphate, and unfortunately the creatures that eat the stuff poo the phosphate right back into your tank.

I think its Lynghba im not sure if i spelled that correctly. If it is i was told its due to low nutrients in water, is this the case?

As a note: getting all conditioned live rock would help your algae situation. Phosphate (algae fuel) comes bound to new rock and sand, not just on the surface, but deep into the structure, and when it gets wet, it slowly soaks out, a process that can take 2-3 years depending on the size of the rock. As it soaks out and gets into the water, algae grows. Phosphate uptake (getting it out of the tank) is expensive and time-consuming.

Replacing problem rock with better rock is not going to hurt your tank, but it does point to a lack of tank maturity that will require some careful management. Best start is to stabilize your water parameters pretty well like mine in my sig line, and use dosing and water changes to keep them there. When something grows to the detriment of things you want in there, it's called a bloom, and blooms happen only when there's too much nutrient for the bad thing and not enough balance. Hope that helps.
