sea slugs (hare)

I had purchased 3 of these two months ago to get my hair algea under control in my 220g. I had planned on letting a friend borrow one or two to keep them with plenty of food.

I also bought a carpet anemone several weeks ago.

The hares had done great with the algea and were looking very healthy.

Have I said they are not the smartest inhabitant of my tank.
Well two of them fell into the carpet and didn't survive.

The third I found in my filter sock in my sump. I still haven't figured how it got through my durso stand pipe in my overflow. Well it also didn't survive.

No questions here just venting.

I know what you mean. They are like little cows with the horns and everything. I found mine in my overflow more then once.

Where did you get your sea hares?

I had one go through my vortech. Purple everywhere....

Not the brightest at all..

Anyone have any other suggestions for algea control?
I had bought 50 astrea's (they are worse than the hares) How can a snail not be able to right itself if it falls? Can you say nitrate spike?
And then of course the sea hares.

Cerith aren't the greatest algea eaters, but the don't die when they fall to the bottom. Trochus snails are like astreas, but can turn themselves over. They are more expensive, usually about 2.50 each but it's worth every penny.

I don't know if any of these snails will eat hair algae though. I've only had luck in the past with a sea hair.

Deer Cowrie or Money Cowrie are great algae eaters!

I had a deer cowrie kill a few frags of SPS.
