sea swirls love em or hate em?

It has been an immense plus for my corals, especially lps, which like the tentacles to toss, and I think it gives the fish more exercise: less hanging about, more playing with the current. I aimed mine at the curve of my bowfront, and it bounces back throughout the tank.

i've been using seaswirls for 2 years and i love it...it's not too expensive and is very good for distributing flow. i love mine so much that i would sleep with it if i could!

I have two 1" SS and love them. They are very inexpensive, and give you some random flow. I use them on my return lines.

If I could afford them, I would get Wavy Seas, but the SS work just fine, so I can't justify the cost.

I've been running (2) 1" seaswirls for the past couple years on a closed loop (ampmaster 3000). They've been working great and have not had to replace the motor on them yet.

i usually have a threesome with 2 of the 1" models - still hurts

Golan, is it the 3/4" or 1" SS you want to sleep with?

just so we know

I bought two 3/4" Sea Swirls for $140 each at Jeff's Exotic fish. I love them. They are pretty affordable, use very little electricity, serve their purpose. You don't really need an electronic programmable unit to randomize the flow anymore that they already do, IMO. I have one on each end of my tank and set each one a little off (timing wise) from each other. I have a 180G and an IWAKI 30rxt as a return. I have a Y on the return which splits the return to each Sea Swirl. IMO the 3/4" handles pleny of flow. If you want to run like over 875gph (or something like that)through each sea swirl then I guess you should go with the 1". I don't really see the need to run that much flow into each one...

Hope this helps a little!

Good luck!

Ok let's see, a dolphin 3600 with head loss at 4 feet to 3300, split to two pipes 1.5 .. 1650 each pipe, which is then stepped down to 3/4 which could mean 825 gph at each pipe?

Or am I off base with my calculations?

I've been using 2x1" for 6+ years. I broke one 3 years ago when I set up my current tank. Sent it back for a total rebulld (40.00). It worked so good I sent back the other one.

SOOO, I was using a Sequence Barracuda on a closed loop to feed these two SS..It was plumbed as well as you can plumb em. I decided a few months ago to dump the cuda and mount two MJ mods to em...the flows a lot more, and, there's not much change in the way the tank looks.

Bottom line, these things never stop rotating, ever.

hey golfish, can you post a pic of your maximoded pumps attached to the SS's please?
