Sea Whip/Fan closed up

Hi all,

I've had a purple sea whip/fan for years which I have moved around between tanks and it has always done fine. About a week to Two weeks ago it has had no polyp extension. All other corals look good. Does anyone know if these have any normal behavior like this? I am sure it has closed up before and maybe I just need to give it some time, but it has started to worry me that something may be off.

The only thing I have done recently was to add mag to bring levels up to 1350. Calcium has been low at around 380. ph is usually stable at 8.2/8.3. Also tried some Aquavitro Fuel product, but only dosed .25 of suggested dose and only 4 times over two weeks. It was prior to it closing up though.

I lightly brushed it cause I have seen it shed before. Since it closed, I have noticed a few polyps extend but minimally and not much. Not sure what to make of it. Haven't had luck finding any useful info.

Found this on another site.

"Gorgs will close up for fairly long periods at a time, days or even weeks. Most often the best thing to do is nothing.

If it seems that you have any algae film starting to build up on the branches you'll need to remove it. I do this by simply by hand, running my fingers over the braches.

The only time you need to worry is if you start to see the flesh recede and the wire like skeleton exposed."

I find that whenever I do something new to my tank (ie dosing whatever), my photosynthetic gorgonians molt. You might want to give it a good blast with a turkey baster...
