Seachem Salt.....

Nick I think this really deserves to be its own thread now to get the word out.... I will repost it....

Don't jump the gun guys, nothing has been resolved. At this point I will have to say, if you are using zeo avoid using seachem salt. The combination isn't looking good.

Sangreal, this is NOT a zeo only related problem....I am not sure where that rumor got started. It was only first noticed by some zeo users. After investigation, it was more widespread that that. Also Noone is saying that this is 100% the reason people had problems. There is no doubt that the batches of bad salt likely contributed to this. HOWEVER, what we did discover NEEDS TO BE ACCOUNTED FOR....weather it was the cause or not, it is something that is very important and by itselft WILL cause TN if there is no adjustment while running low alk. IMO, it was the cause. At this point there really is no other evidence that points to anything else (other than a bad batch of salt). Given the huge impact of Alk on the SPS reef, there is a high probablity this is the issue at hand.

Kurt,
I have yet to see a non-zeo user chime in here with the same or similar problem. If I missed something please point me towards it.

Its kind of funny why people change salt if your old salt is giving you good parameters? I have been using TMpro since 1.5 years ago. I can say i know the parameters it can gives and i know what is lacking. I normally dose Mg since it is only 1100ppm.
I have been offered to try Seachem Salt and its not cheap either.

Important is there is no good or bad salt, we try to accomodate and make sure we know its parameters and adjust by adding to suit our requirement.

But a Sure Bad Salt is one that is not consistent in its parameters.

Read through that thread again...there is a post by Bob where he says that after visiting other boards, it is not exclusive to Zeovit.

People switch salts when they find one that has closer parameters to what they like to run... why else???

I for one switched to seachem from IO because the Mag is higher, the Ca is higher and the Alk is lower. All things that I found to be problematic with IO.

I did, but unfortunately he never gave any more info on where and who, reefcentral gets more hits than all other forums put together, so I was hoping someone here will chime in, but I haven't seen anyone here. If you know of any other forums please let us know. I would like to get some more info from those non-zeo users on their experience with seachem.

I am just taking Bob's word on that, you may want to ask him that question. I dont really post outside of RC and Zeovit so I dont know.

I see what you meant. But if ONLY this new salt can gives you constant reading batch after batch. :p

I only trust reliable salt. TMpro which i find it reliable because besides low Mg. But more importanly constant batch after batch.

;)
