seagrass muds

i have been checking out products such as mineral mud and miracle and have come to the conclusion that they are hella expensive!!!

Is there any type of mud or something that can be purchased at a hardware store or something that is suitable for aquariums? I live in MA so there are no seagrass beds around, is there any type of mud that can collected in a pond or stream or something?

How much mineral mud should make up the total DSB? one fifth, one thrid, half? Anyone know?

Use Fiji Mud (product of Walt Smith). The stuff is killer, inexpensive and works the best. Just add it to the tank or fuge. No need to cycle it like the other stuff which is actually far from being mud. This stuff is the real deal mud

More than a few of the online places sell the Fiji mud too. I'm not sure that it is anything super special, but it is certainly the most silty/mud like of the commercial muds I've tried.

Mineral Mud is almost fluffy, very easy to root into, but its hard to tell how much 'nutrition' it provides to the plants.

Honestly have a rich bed matters when you are keeping the lagoon water column clean for corals. Eventually though its going to be exhausted if the bioload isnt high enough to support the plants long term.
