Hello people:

I am in Brisbane. A newbie in seahorse keeping.

I have started 12 months ago and lost them all in diferent times.:thumbdown

I just got today 2 kudas, and I am running for the first time my brand new JBL ArtemioSet. :reading:

I would LOVE to know if you guys know a seahorse breeder in Aus (apart from the Tasmania people).

Thank you lots.

Hi Laura - I think there aren't that many down there. I know a lot of people have complained about the lack of seahorses available. You can try Seahorse Australia (seahorse-australia.com.au) and Seahorse World (seahorseworld.com.au). They're both part of the same company.

I have heard some things that worry me. It sounds like many fish stores there offer wild caught seahorses but claim they're captive bred. This may be a misunderstanding of the legalities around collecting seahorses. It's illegal in some places, but some do allow collecting a certain number. But most people think it's illegal, which I think leads to people assuming they're captive bred.

The other issue is Tank Raised being confused with captive bred. Tank raised seahorses often have a lot of the same problems that wild seahorses do, being that they're raised in natural sea water that is unfiltered. They're often sold much too small as well. So watch out for that.

Sorry to offer such grim news, I just wanted to make you aware of some of the problems in the AU so you can be on the lookout for any funny business.

Good luck to you, and if you do find any breeders, please share!
