Seahorse Tanks

I am looking for saltwater/marine plants for my tank. I am thinking of purchasing h.erectus as there are some color variations that appeal to me. So in planning my tank's aquascape, I would like to try live plants before going to buy plastic. Any good mail-order that can be recommended?

I have another question as well. I understand that different sub-species of seahorses should not be housed together. But what about purchasing the same (such as h.erectus) from 2 different very reputable sources? I know what they offer are not pen-raised or wildcaught.
Any thoughts?

First of all, I can't help with where to buy live plant life.
As for colours or patterns, NEVER buy for colour unless it is the same price as without special colours as they seldom remain the same once placed in your tank.
Many species have colour variations, not just erectus.
For best chances of success, it is NOT wise to mix even same species from different sources.
Mixing species or same species from different sources is exposing the seahorses to pathogens they haven't grown up with and most times fall victims to.

I've ordered macroalgae from LA Reefs and would definitely recommend them, I'm about to place an order with live-plants.com, they always get fantastic reviews, Reef Cleaners gets nice plants in as well, but their inventory changes daily...and there's a seller on the nano-reef.com forums that I got several healthy macros from, he goes by keydiver.

I have a pair of erectus that I got from Seahorse Source, they're beautiful and change color constantly.

Yeah, the past year I haven't seen a lot of interesting macros on reefcleaners. Spring he had more, but it was still slim pickings.

FWIW, macro is seasonal, and generally isn't collected until spring when it's actively growing.

Rayjay,

Let me check on a Canadian macro source...we have a guy on our website who may have one.

Yes, but he Hubert didn't have any last time I checked.
I've sent him a message now to see what the current status is.
Thanks.
