Seahorses and Harlequin Shrimp?

I have an established 95G Seahorse tank...4 pairs of Hippocampus Reidi. I also have tankmates that co-exist in harmony with the H. Reidi...including ocellaris, royal gramma, bangaii cardinalfish and diamondhead anthias. The tank is over a year old with no loss of livestock... All is good.

Recently, the tank has developed a crop of asterina starfish, of unknown origin. The asterinas are notorious for doing damage to soft coral and coralline algae. These small pests are best controlled by the Harlequin Shrimp.

Has anyone had experience with adult seahorses and a small Harlequin shrimp? Any problems to report?

Thanks.

If I were to right an article on tankmates, I would give harlequin shrimp a risk rating of O, on a scale from 0-4.

;)

Thanks Pledo...actually after starting this thread, I followed a link you placed in another thread, and that's exactly the risk rating given them on seahorse.org.

If the asterinas show up in the upgraded seahorse tank (I'm sure many will survive the move on LR and LS), then a Harlequin is in the cards...

They are in there...

They are in there...

A pair of Harlequins went into the 120G seahrose reef last evening...after they decimate the Asterina stars, it will be time to supplement with starfish pieces... :eek1:

I have a 56 gallon tall with two fuscus and a barb and my harlequin. All do fine, I dont think I have ever seen my seahorse near Harley(not creative name at all). I just added a tiny one to my in-tank refugium a few days ago. Its nice to be able to see this one. If yours starts eating the asterina stars you will see them but after there all gone not so much. Mine eats a Chocolate chip starfish about one a week and you hardly see him in his "cave" on top of the starfish. Good luck they are great tankmates.
