learn alot about the "ponies". something i didnt know was some "ponies" are more active at night. its late now and the male is doing loops right now in the tv shimmering light. funny. female is a more of a 10pm swiming. she always hitches up bye midnight. lol ill post pictures in the am. thanks to scottyc1's skimmer ( bargain price apprieciated!) water is crystal clear and no sign of protien slick on surface at all! feed heavy still.... .......filtration holding up soak food in zoecon. makes an instant slick at every feed. (2 daily) once on weekends.:eek1:

upgrade to 29 gallon in 4 weeks.. just started cycling!(6 year oscar died 2 weeks ago. cant keep up this feeding in 10 gallon.

this is pic from first week. they have changed pattern and shade since! very amazing to see them somtime change color from am to opm. they can be that fast . any case they have a normal "rest shade" and this has changed in my pair as u will see.

looking at them i never consider them as fish...but they are! really cool as they have excellent eye sight and notice you instantly when your near the tank. they are always watching you when near the tank. they have eyes like a cameleon so one eye stays fixed and the other searches. funny buggers! again thier eye sight is excellent!

i have my fingers crossed. they seem to happy! im worried that things will go wrong! cant be so easy to care for them. lol! i am very dilegent about thier care, but as some may know seahorse dont live long even in nature. hope mine are young! they are about 4 inches max! i research how to measure them and this includs from tip of tail to tp of head. they really are more active at night 1 one ussually tires then the other takes over. all night they seem to swim rest and swim. its rare for me to see both up at night. ussually its one or the other. wierd stuff!

that would be fine but keep the bioload as low as possible as your gonna feed the crap out of these guys. they recommend 3 feedins a day. i do 2. i did have a jawfish in the tank with them for a few days but i got him out a week later. now they only are housed with 2 pepermint shrimps ,l three snails, a few hermit crabs, and thats it.

ok micheal. i just found out some other useful info about seahorses. they dont like high heat. all species will not fair well once 78F hits for long term. ideal temp is in the 73F-75F. now as far as tank mates this worries me cause a jawfish is a warm water species. may work but also may make ich pop up once intro'ed. now when i first added my horses temp was at about 80F but i did get a post saying thats too hot so i lowered it to 77F. thank the lord for my heater in the seahorse tank not being acurate cause with time the temp has settled at 75 . i have been meaning to raise it but want to be around to monitor it if the temp goes too high. anyways now i find out this. so my temp has been at about 75F and ive been told thats right on. better yet 73 F can be better but 75F is good. 73F is better cause any swings wont raise temp over 75F which can be bad.
so seahorses need to be cared in a 73-75F temp. just passing along what ive learned as i know some of you plan on keeping seahorses. i guess after a few weeks of high temp seahorses die. maybe why some people have low success? never been told by anyone that seahorses require a cooler tank than the reef. great info and i have researched it.....its true!
