Theres a good bit of information out on the web. You just get a license like you would a regular fishing license, and you go and collect within regulated areas, with the regulated species and limits. If you'd like more info, i can give it to you.

Thats okay just curious. If I get a chance to go to the Gulf I might look into it but Im not sure I'd want to put anything from that area in my tank. Texas beaches aren't the cleanest..

Alright just drew up a real quick scketch of a RCSD (Reverse Carlson Surge Device) in autocad. Here it is

So. The pipe on the left is hooked to a bulkhead installed on the bottom of the tank. Water both exits and enters there. There is supposed to be a hole in the top which i forgot to draw, (but its only a rough sketch so...) Air is pumped in through the imaginary hole, and it pushes the water down, to form an air filled cavity. Then when the air goes below the elbow. All the air rushes out of the pipe on the left and water rushes in, causing a surge. The outlet pipe will be pointed into my sump, so when a little bit of water comes out, it will just be ejected to my sump. I still have to design a silencer/muffler. so the rushing air/water sound will not keep me up at night. More pics/designs to come later.

wow, i don't why i didn't realize this till recently, but the RCSD, will never be able to start its cycle, it will just empty out the outpipe. So i designed a new piston style surge device, that runs off an air pump, and uses a solenoid, to determine the surge.

I got 50 pounds of uaniva live rock today. It looks great, Right now i'm working an aquascaping. As of now i have two islands, with a bunch of arches for fish to swim through. its really frustrating, becuase i can't get it just right. I want alot of swimming room, as well as arches and rock work. pics to come.

So I finally got my live rock, put in sand, and i set up my sump (Temporarily using a hole in the bottom of my tank for an overflow). My skimmer is still broken and i can't find a replacement piece. I think i have my final aquascape in place. well here are pictures

Since i don't have a protien skimmer running, and a super bubbly overflow my bubble tower has become my temporary skimmer. every couple hours i go upstairs, and skim off the protien foamed up. I get a nice dark brown skimmate this way. Here are some pictures.

I also redesigned my overflows to quiet them down a bit. I hope they'll fit under the euro brace. But heres the plan. Its basically the 3" overflows going to a one inch line with a stockman standpipe on top of it. HEre are pictures.

I got my Chaeto today, But I can't get it to tumble. I have a good bit of flow going through my fuge. Any advice would be great.

did you build the new standpipes? how'd they work for making it more quiet? So far it's looking pretty good, keep it up!

I havn't built the standpipes yet. I"ve been really busy studying and such. SAT this weekend Wohoo. haha But they should be coming. I've also been a bit distracted becuase i might be getting a free rimless 180 (3'x4'x2'). So i was looking at arowanas and freshwater stingrays and such. (it'll be a freshwater tank).

Well I"ve basically given up on trying to find a piece for the Reef Octopus 110, and I bought a DAS EX-1 From another reefer. which Has put me back a few hundred bucks. So i won't be spending any money for a while. haha.
I did my first set of testes today and i got

ph-8.2

Strands of chaeto are falling off the blob and going into my display, Theres little strands all over the sand. Is this bad? Or just natural pieces falling apart. I have about 400 gph going through the sump/fuge, and a external power filter putting flow right on it as well. Any help would be great.

Uhoh got my first form of unwanted life! I got my first aiptasia stalk in the sump attached to the glass. Lots of pics to come. I'm finishing plumbing. I ordered a bulb so i can set my lighting up, but i've recieved 3 broken bulbs so far. 4's a charm... I hope. My skimmer hasn't come yet either. Any suggestions would be great.
