Sean's ever lasting battle 125g in-wall SPS

Agreed. I'm not sure if its primarily a export issue with an overload of bacteria, ect.

I can tell you that once I cut back on the products, my algae issues returned and color worsened. I started up recently again to see what happens

That is an interesting observation. What really confounds me is that while nitrates are high and colors are great there are no algae issues. Back off dosing then the nitrates drop, colors fade, and the algae returns.

The only AF product I am using is Pro bio S [2 drops] and 5ml of NP Pro to seed my Matrix. My nitrates went from 10 to 25 for two weeks. I backed off feeding, kept my WC schedule and my nitrates dropped to 10 again but colors faded some.

I look forward to hearing which products you are using again and what the results are.

Thanks again for posting.

I have been using the full AF line for about 4 months now, and its been a lonnnggg time I since I testd nutrients. Only thing i test is alk really. If I remember correctly , last time I tested no3 I got a 0(undetectable) reading. This was with salifert test kit, and po3 of .02 with hanna. I no longer have my No3 kit nor hanna reagents, so I think tomorrow I will take some water to my LFS to test. However I must say if by any chance my no3 are high, my tank has never looked as good as it does now. I have had incredible growth in the last month. So if no3 is high, corals look amazing and no algae.. then leave it be. AF voodoo is doing something.

I am curious as well. I am glad to hear of your excellent growth and color. I have reached the same conclusion for my tank: if all is great but nitrates are high, so be it.

Have you seen change since continuing dosing your products?

Curious to your nitrate levels, did you ever get them tested?

Hey Sean so as i told you, i finally got my water tested. Sooo get ready..... no3 2ppm and po4 undetectable (both on salifert) . Just to test if np pro or probio s were the culprits for you guys with high no3. So i fed the tank like always at 10am, waited 30 minutes and dosed nppro/bios. Then waited another 30 minutes, and collected the water to test. Reason i did this, was to make sure that if AF was to blame for high no3 it would show. Guess this kinda proves most of our theories wrong, about AF causing high No3. Maybe those that got this reading were because the product spoiled, rather than it ctually raising it on purpose. I keep all AF products in the refrigerator. .and i mean all except gac/gfo and obviously salt. Who know maybe this could be a factor. Anyways good luck Sean. Hope to see some pics soon!!!!

Hey Jorge, I stopped using AF. Had some mysterious coral deaths, I am not blaming it on the AF as I don't know what caused it. I was also messing around with some Koral Color and probably dosed too much or a combination of both. Low alkalinity may have been a factor as well. I was an attempting to beat some bryopsis which is still growing strong.
I am going back to the basics, get corals looking right again. Will probably dabble a little more with the AF. As you can see in the pic PH has thin tissue and the long fuzzy polyps are short and turning fluorescent green. It looks pretty cool but concerned it will rtn like some of the other corals did, after having dramatic color changes. I will keep you in mind when I do frag it again, I would love to trade for another pearlberry, since it was one of the frags that didn't do well.

Mine looks just like this, and has for months, honestly has looked like it is on deaths door since I had a major alk spike 3 months or so ago.

Any update on your battle against bryopsis?
Did you discontinue all of the AF products? How is it going since then? I discontinued my AF Amino & Vitality trying to lower my nitrates (having high nitrates it's supposed to be unnecessary its dosing). One of my colonies' tissue started to look like yours, very thin and a couple of days later it RTN to death.
This nitrates readings are driving me crazy. Should we act as if we weren't having any nitrate problem?

I only dosed one time with the Mag. To be honest, the tank is a mess.

Im 100% certain the rock is the problem (very old, leaching phosphate that is being used up by the byropsis). I have had some deaths, but to be honest, I had a temp swing, and have been tinkering with it too much.

I stopped AF dosing (still have the zeolites running), went back to vinegar dosing, and I am going to take out all of my rock an replace it. Im done messing around with it as I have been for a couple years battling it.

Going back to the Keep it simple stupid method, as I have had much success in the past with it lol

Tissue still looks thin on some of the acros and I am sure I haven't experienced my last death from it.

I do also find it weird that Debora just changed out all rock as well.

Sorry to hear your tank was looking so good. Actually mine hit a road bump last month but finally its looking better again.

Its funny I was going to start a thread on this and may again. In my experience, MOST of the funks my tank has had and all the problems (spikes, minicrashes, crashes) have ALL come after a period where things were looking amazing. I wonder if there is anything to that? Its happened a few times to me now that it got me thinking. Anyone else here made that observation?

That said, I am also the tinkerer. This past funk I'm dealing with started when I tried changing my lighting program. Long story short I'm back to my original program and I'm loving it even more now, LOL!:hammer:

Might be, things always seem great before bad happens.

Well, I replaced all my rock last night, hows that for tinkering! lol

The rock was so bad it needed to go, ask dadummy, he saw it. so hopefully things settle in quickly.

Okay, so things are starting to settle down after stopping most AF Products and switching out all my garbage rock, lets start with the good :)

Picked up a new piece of fire.

Jason Fox Beach Bum Monti :D

isn't that the mother colony? you should be able to get a couple frags off of that, and still have a nice chunk left lol
