Hey eveyone,

I was hoping I could get some pic's and/or descriptions of what skimmers eveyone is running on thier systems.

I'm thinking about replacing my 2 skimmers with a single unit....

Right now I'm running a ~320 gal system (120 tank, 150 sump, 50 fuge) and a Lifereef VS-24 (about 200 gal rating)skimmer and a CSS 220 (220 gal rating)

I was thinking about going to a MRC MR-2R or a MR-3. Both of those are rated around the 500 gal mark (as I hope to one day upgrade my display tank ;) well one day, far off)...

This is probably the better pic of how my current skimmers are setup:

Here's my skimmer when the tank was set up back in June. It's a ASM G3. Running great on about 175 total gallons. The pump is a Sedra 7000. I think a 3000 or 5000 usually comes with it.

Looks like so-far the majority run the skimmers in-sump... I only see a couple of us with skimmers plumbed externally.

Any comments on the MRC skimmers?

We experienced the cup running over on an external skimmer once. Once was all it took.

eewwww...that's really nasty to think about.

Saltyunderground, did you have to make any adjustments using the bigger pump? Or is it just plug and play?

We did not actually change the pump ourselves. The skimmer came with the bigger pump. For some reason ASM was putting different size pumps in their skimmer boxes. I assume it was based on the availability of the pumps at the time of packing. We were warned by Dwayne at MS to check the box to make sure the pump was at least a Sedra 5000. Our box had a 7000, and we took it. There were no mods needed.

Since the picture was taken, we have modified slightly the water outake on it though. There is a lot of micro bubbles coming out of the skimmer. The skimmer is situated by the intake for the pump up to the tank. So we were getting microbubbles in the tank. We added some PVC to route the skimmed water back to the center chamber in the sump. The micro bubbles do not come back into the last chamber and problem solved.

caesura's isn't in sump. Neither is mine. With the shut off waste collectors it will stop skimming out when they fill up.

I used to have a dual becket MR3 before the GEO skimmer stlouisguy posted a pic of. Now I have a ER 12-2. The GEO was by far the best but a power hog. The MR3 was not bad but I had to adjust it alot. I am getting ready to turn the ER into a recirc with 3 sedra 5000's and plumb it externally - it takes up alot of room in the sump.
